carpet beetles under scalp?

I have found carpet beetles and shampooed the carpets plus bagged and sprayed everything. I told the landlord and he acts oblivious like always. My hair started to itch and get crunchy like the carpet was getting before I shampooed it. It also is getting black when I have brown hair. I have bites on my scalp big ones that are hard limps that hurt and itch all in a group. I can see black bugs come out in the shower some times. When I go to the doctor they see nothing and thing I am crazy. I think this is because I just moved here so no one knows me and no one knows that my hair is not this black or course! He says that it is. He also says that I just have a lumpy scalp. No because I went through chemo and I have a smooth scalp. It is my body so I think I know. I hate when doctors try to tell me what my body looks like when I have been living in it all of my life. My question is because from a research stand point carpet beetles hide under flooring (carpet and linoleum or wood) and come up to feed, can or would they ever do this on a human's scalp because research says they do eat hair? It even states that taxidermists use them sometimes to get the hair off of animals. I can get my hair soft only briefly with olive oil or lavender lotion and lots of rubbing but then it is not more than an hour before starting from those bumps the hair gets all stiff and crunchy again. I am so scared. I already went through breast cancer and just want to be healthy. I am moving and hope things will be better but fear this infestation is on me! IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE DOCTORS WILL EVEN LOOK INTO THIS! I do have an appointment with a dermatologist and took some bugs into an entimamologyst at the university.

After years of searching, I have finally identified a bug/larvae I've been seeing in my apartment. The last year I have suffered from scalp redness, tenderness, red spots, red bumps with salt like granules at the end of the hair, black blue looking hairs that are thin then texture gets thicker, tingling like crawling, itching and hair thinning, hair loss, oily flakey and irritated scalp, black dots underneath hair and over all itchy skin. I was diagnosed by a GP and a Derm with Seborrheic Dermatitis and put on a corticosteroid solution and dhs shampoo. After bloodwork I was diagnosed with iron deficiency and put on an iron supplement. Long story short I am now SHOCKED to learn about ANTHRENUS VERBASCI, carpet beetles known as fabric eating insects who feed on fabric, wool, pet hair, human hair, carpet fibers and live behind walls, baseboards, in the attic, in birds nests and around windows signaling infestation. Carpet Beetle Dermatitis is years of exposer developing hypersensitity. Testimonials from others have exact same symptons.....I was speechless!  I am just now starting the process of tryin to rid my apartment of these things, which I've read is not an easy task, they are every where and it's driving me crazy! I cringe of the thought of them being on me and my baby, my 4 lb chihuahua, Chloe. I have no clue how to rid myself and her of these. I need to take this to my Derm but I know she will think I'm nuts. I've often thought these were linked to my skin problems but wasn't able to figure out what they were until now. Today I find a tiny one inbedded in my skin..so now I'm thinking this is what is in my back also and it's blue around it! I also have red needle point dots all over and feel a stinging sensation alot. If anyone has any other information or experiences please share....my hair is getting thinner by the day and I am terrified by the time this is over I won't have any. PLEASE HELP!!

Has anyone experienced permanent hair loss, or was there re-growth once you moved to a safer location?

go to bug identifier, click fabric eating insects, click on carpet beetles. It shows all kinds of pics of adults and their larvea.

I have the same problem i also am infected with carpet beetles, i had 3 different exterminators come into my home to identify my bug problem, and they all said that in no way shape or form do these bugs even crawl on humans my 17 year old daughter thought i was going insane and phoned the cops on me and i was taken to the physc ward. They saw that i was infected with bugs and thought it was scabies and gave me a scrip for cream and then it was back again so i knew it wasnt that plus scabies leave leasions and line marks on the skin i did not have that. 3 people live in my home and no one else gets bit.but it is so bad on me and in me in my nipples vagina and inside my body under my skin i can see a clump under my skin move about as i blow dry hot heat on my body. it sickens me my daughter moved out. I have a micro scope now and i have shown my roommate the bugs larvea and she knows now i am telling the truth. Tomorrow i see my doctor and i hope like hell he can help me. This has been going on since August and both my littledogs are so itchy and sick and i feel so bad for them. I buiy lavender essential pure oil and put drops in all lotion and all shampoos and cream rinses. This helps keep them at bay.Windex sprayed all over the furniture and carpets kills them its the amonia. Also Borax take a large spice shaker and make the holes bigger with a knife fill it with Borax and shake the **** all over the carpet and the cracks of the walls meet floors and i mean solid white covering all carpet buy boxes of the **** put sheets down to walk on. As soon as the Borax touches one of those little ******* it cracks their skeletor backs and they die instantly. If you have any advise for me please help, i am going crazy, and i cant kill myself i want to live plus my kids dad already did that. I need help.

Have you gotten any answers or help with these critters yet? I am very interested as I myself have similar problems. Please contact me.
Sulfur shampoo, sulfur and MSM cream, zinc cream, tea tree oil, cortisone cream, hepa filters, vacuuming every day, lint rollers, diatomaceous earth, Fulvic acid, vinegar,
caterpillar bacteria and keen green… Don’t use harsch chemicals or bleach it will only make it worse. Stay healthy eat well and take mineral supplements.

I’m almost free of them after a month of intense battle. They gave me and my dog severe allergies and skin irritations. ( I’m using dog sulfur parasite shampoo)
Veterinary formula found on amazon.

I believe It’s a micro moth which has become resistant to common pest control products

Me and and my 1 year old and 3 year old are infested all over body, in our hair and I honestly can’t handle it anymore. Everyone thinks I’m crazy. I’m also 8 months pregnant.

Need help!!! Did you get rid of it? I moved into a hotel and now am trying to battle this nightmare to try and get rid of if it.... please anyone tell me what to do!!!!!
Well, first you need to go see a doctor to find out what you actually have.  It could be bedbugs.  It could be some other kind of biting insect.  But until you get a diagnosis you can't know how to proceed.  If it is your home, there are inspectors who come in and look to see what kind of infestation you have and how to get rid of it if that's possible, but again, first you need to have an expert look at the bites and see what they look like.
Doctors are no help.  They do not know it is fungus, and prescribe antibiotics which intensifies the symptoms.

Valley Fever is prevalent in Southern USA and California.

Man I thought I was alone. I have been dealing with a bug issue since April 2013. After I was attacked by bed bugs on a work conference. I have lost my job. I went crazy. I can see the tiniest tinniest of bugs. My kids too thought I lost it.  I even got accused of doing drugs.  But test showed I was clean. I have been through so many phyc meds its not funny.  For months they kept telling me I had nothing. So my mental health became an issue.  I can feel them on my body, in my cloths.  I have destroyed my home, and hate to go anywhere. I have scrubbed everything from floor boards to ceilings.  Shampoo carpets steamed everything,  and still have issues.  I don't have any income now. To hire professionals. I feel sickening to let people come inside. I have gotten rid of all my furniture.  I have done the borax but I have grandbabies who live within me.  I am constantly checking them for bugs. Any other suggestions I would appreciate.  I am young and have worked since I was 15, raised 3 beautiful daughters. And now I am crazy.   According to the doctors.  I need help.

Sorry about your infestation! I would definitely not put borax down on the carpets, especially with pets and children. Are you positive they are carpet beetles? Also I would have the carpets steam cleaned. Maybe ask a professional but honestly the sprays and poisons they use are neurotoxins, and humans have just about the same nervous system as insects, so if it kills the insects imagine what it does to you, and your children and pets, I would try natural remedies. Especially with the dogs. I know some animals can be very sensitive to essential oils and a lot are even poisonous to animals. I would call the vet and ask if lavender is okay. Also don't use those poisons in the tubes that you put on your pets necks, they are so dangerous and toxic, hundreds of dogs die from this stuff. Please google about those to. And for anyone else reading this I hope you consider homeopathic remedies for these problems.  Also maybe wash clothing and dry them in a hot dryer, as well as stuffed animals to. Good Luck.

Hello to all who have commented on Carpet Beetles.  Mine is a super LONG story, so I probably can't include all the details on this post. But feel free to msg me with any questions as I'm  happy to help.  I'm a single 56 y/o gal.  I had to retire early after 35 yrs on my job that I loved due to  disabled with a bone disease and other muscular-skelatal conditions.

Just before discovering the "Infestation", I remember some sort of bug dive bombing my head several times while sitting at my desk.  They bit my scalp at the top of my head. I'd get bumps and itch them, then they would heal for a few days until the itchy bumps returned. But I've never seen any type of larve come from these bumps   But still many months later, after "hopefully" eradicating the infestation, the 5 bumps on the top of my head continue to inflame a little and swell up.  I've had 2 doctors look at the bumps and my primary doc said she will biopsy them.  However, I've had a new problem with my right eye to deal with.  7 days ago I started seeing black spots and lines that look like thin hairs.  These things were stationary and did not "float", however their appearance changes daily. Vision in my right eye has been blury & cloudy.  On the third day the lines were thicker and looked like they had a little round head on top with a long tail and again, they didn't move.  After I took a shower they were gone.
So if you are wondering, YES I'm freaked out, wondering if I have Carpet Beetle larve in my brain & eye balls.
I went to the eye doctor on Thursday.  I calmly told her about the insects infestation & biting my scalp).
She (the eye doctor) said I have ruptured blood vessels in BOTH EYES, (even though I don't notice anything in my left eye), usually caused by high blood pressure.  I've had a bit of high BP over the last couple of years, however it was normal at the doctors office on Thursday.  I've been sleeping a lot for 4 days and my vision in my right eye is a little better and there are less black spots. The eye doctor referred me to see an Ophthalmologist which I will schedle tomorrow.  She said they will probably do some laser treatment on my eyes.

Now, in telling you about m infestation, I'd like to begin by saying that:  if I were renting rather than buying this condo, I would have moved out of here long ago!

Starting in September 2013 I discovered "something" in my carpets.  I called Orkin exterminaters out and they were no help at all.  The young inexperienced guy said I had no bugs or insects. (months later I learned that we rarely see the insects themselves, but only the larve, or pupates, and rare but possible; the laid eggs,)  I had already identified two insects from in LONG hours of internet searching & reading.  I collected more specimens and had Rambo Total Pest Control, of Puyallup Washington (A suburb of Seattle) out to my condo.  They took specimins back to their specialists and confirmed that I had a major infestion of both Case-Making Clothes Moths, and Carpet Beetles.  I have a 2 br Condo Townhouse.  Everyroom was involved.  Althourh they were 100% sure of the type of insects involved, they weren't sure they could eratacate the infestation without possible harm to my two medium sized dogs.  So here is my course of action:
1. Inspected every inch of my condo and threw away clothes, blankets, clothes, all of  my dog's beds, etc. that had been damaged or eaten.  What I found totally grossed me out!  This has been an ongoing step of my process.
2.  Gathered clothes & blankets, laundered in hot soapy water & hot dryer, then stored in a plastic air tight containers with lids.  Some less risky fabrics were put in sealable plastic bags.
3.  Hired help to rip out all of my carpets & pads & haul them away.  We also removed & discarded most of the nail tack boards around every room, and also the trim at the bottom of the walls.  So I'm living on cement floors on the ground level of my condo, and icky plywood type flooring upstairs.  I've bought a few throw rugs.  Eventually I plan to replace my flooring with laminate.  No more carpeting!

4. I did several rounds of extermination with "Raid's Concentrated Deep Reach Fogger"  They are little orange cans, 3 to a pack.  They were about $9 per pack of 3 and I went through LOTS of them on my 3 exterminations.  The 3rd time I used the most!  They take only 1 or 2 minutes to spray out their stuff.  So you gotta plan your locations, evacuate the pets to the car, set off all the foggers QUICKLY, and then leave the house for 5 or 6 hours.  I have an attic & I put them up there too.  Mind you, this was during the winter months in Seattle, so we spent a lot of time in the Safeway parking lot with the car heater on, just snacking, napping, & playing in my Jeep Grand Cherokee.  :-)

I also burn a lot of Cedar insence.  I also purchased a spray bottle of pure Cedar oil to spray around because I know it's safe for the dogs.  I also sprayed Raid Insect spray around my front and back patio.  And I also used Borac Acid Powder at the begining, but realized I could not use that as the main exterminator because it's too toxic for my dogs and me.  I had put some on a small area but I walked on it with my slippers.  It went all the way through the slippers and irratated/burned my feet.  I still have lots of the powder left and I think I'll put some in a couple of cracks I have  here & there.

That's about all I can type for now with my right eye closed and using just my left eye.   Let me know your questions.  Hopefully we can help each other.  I think a lot of people who experience this don't want to talk about it because it is humulating, we worry that people will assume we don't keep our homes clean, and of course people think we are crazy!

If I may ask, folks please include the city & state in which you reside in your posts.

Kind Regards;
Kim  :-)

Hi! I have a carpet beetle problem. I had carpet beetles in one of my carpets a few years ago. They were hard to notice because they were so small. I cleaned out my cabinets, & I thought that eliminated.

I discovered a few years later they had apparently moved into my couch. I didn't notice, but I thought my couch was wearing out from use. Yesterday I started getting small welts on my skin & I thought it was bedbugs.

I noticed, while in the process of freaking out, a carpet beetle. After checking the carpet up close, I noticed many of the the striped, hairy little larva f***ers established as well. Well, l.as well as larvae in the carpet all over the place. I started extensively vacuuming to get rid of them.

Here's the thing, & it making me paranoid. I swear to God I feel things crawling in my hair, neck, arms, & inside of my right ear. I THINK I've gotten a few off, but they are so small I can't be sure. If there is something I've gotten off, they are small, white & thin.

I don't feel bites or itchiness or anything. I just feel a tingle. Am I paranoid, or is it possible that really young larva are on me?

I'm wearing a cotton shirt, & I find it hard to believe I found an infestation and then a day later something ELSE is on me.Thoughts?

I'm Roberto, an artist from Salt Lake City, now residing in San Pedro.  Both of you are the only ones who seem to be on the same page as I am.  Everybody else is missing the point.  It's not that the bugs are in your dwelling that is of MAJOR concern; but rather, that the carpet beetles are suspects in a parasitic invasion of your BODY itself.

1.  I believe that.
2.  Doctors have little to NO experience at this issue
3.  Doctors habitually will blame the patient for an imaginative condition
4.  There ARE diagnostic tests that WILL determine the existence of these parasites, if you are indeed "invaded" inside your body; under your skin.
5.  If you present as an "uninsured patient", doctors will only give you a cursory exam WITHOUT the benefit of a machine diagnostic imaging test.

I have PLEADED with doctors to simply shoot one x-ray and one scan; but for 9 years, since the fall of 2005, no doctor has ever gone further than an physical exam of my eyes.  They habitually look under the lids, see nothing, and declare that I have a "foreign body sensation", and or that I'm imagining all of this.  So, I DO BELIEVE YOU, I FEEL YOUR PAIN.

Presently, here are the quick facts of my situation:
1.  Eyes and lids wide open at high speed impact with a Trumpet Vine
2.  Running under the eaves of my house to catch a phone call when I looked up from the ground and impacted a cluster of 4-5 trumpet flowers on my open eyes, and deep under both eye lids.
3.  Flushed some of the deposited plant materials out, much of it remained
4.  Dual eye infection occured, with unbearable itching and discharge
5.  Lost 3 days of sleep, only to finally fall asleep, but on my filthy art studio CARPETED FLOOR.
6.  Deep rem sleep caused me to be so unaware of my bodily movements, while sleeping, that I awoke to find myself rigorously rubbing my itching eye lids DIRECTLY INTO THE TALL PILE CARPETING.
7.  Every imaginable form of fiber and debris became lodged underneath BOTH eye lids.  (My art studio floor had not been vacumed for 6 months; and I used that art studio to do ALL of these tasks:)  Sanding of wood, paint surfaces, drilling and stripping screws.  Cutting picture hanging wire and using steel wool to remove paint.  Cutting glass, combing my cat, and cutting cotton rags.
8.  Every imaginable form of fiber has, for 9 years now, been continually flushing out of my eyes.  The cat hair and carpet fiber probably wound themselves around the remaining plant material from the trumpet vine.
However, my journey is still fraught with calamity and danger because of a stubborn series of objects STILL  lodged underneath my eyelids and seemed to have settled at the back curvature of both eyes.  Since the beginning dating back to September 2005, I have ALSO been flushing various kinds of insects from my eye sockets; both dead and living.  A couple of these insects/parasites are indigineous to the trumpet flower, namely, the Botfly, and the Jewel Wasp. 2011 saw me relocate to San Pedro, California in hopes of gaining help from my mother, and aquiring some kind of health insurance that might go farther to encourage Ophthalmologists to get more aggressive with diagnostics.  My HMO plan is pending; and soon I hope to hook up with doctors here in LA.

Given that I have ALSO flushed very tiny steel wool wires that measure about 1/2" long at times; an MRI is out of the question.  My research on the internet, brought me to a YouTube video series, produced by Discovery communications and Animal Planet, called "Monsters Inside Me."  Further research indicate that my diagnostic protocol should be first an x-ray, to rule out the presence of any remaning metal wire or tiny microscopic shards of metal from stripping the heads of metal wood screws with my high speed drill.

THEN, what I will probably have done is a form of very sofisticated "high resolution/high frequency" ultrasound, OR, more likely what is called an Optical Coherence Tomography A/B scan; also known as an OCT A/B scan.  If they scan my brain, and scalp; I imagine that physicians may do a CT dye contrast exam; to determine the presence of parasites. I can tell you that I saw a bump on my left eye lid about 2 years ago, which resembled a spider or mosquito bite.  It itched alot, never came to a head, and then moved upward on the lid over time.  My eyelashes on my left eye are 25% gone.  I feel itching and a "crawling" sensation inside the eyelid and under my scalp; mostly on the left side and crown of my head.  I have confirmed capture of living carpet beetles from both eyes one month ago.

Recently, my research uncovered a reliable article on the CDC site and The National Institutes of Health; that warned of 5 dangerous parastic conditions that US inhabitants should watch for; 2 of which are the botfly larvae and toxoplasmosis.  The botfly can be deposited by a bite from the mosquito.  The toxoplasmosis can be contracted from cats.  The Jewel wasp can inject its eggs into a caterpillar, cricket or carpet beetle.

The latter would explain why I have found tiny jewel wasps (about 6 in as many years), along with small fly wings, and broken cricket legs.  I think the force impact into that trumpet vine, instantaneously "implanted" many of these insects in various stages of development; many removed have been dead.  But to my horror, including recently; I have removed live ones too.  I have saved most of this debris over the years and recently started categorizing various kinds of debris.

I await my HMO startup in 2-4 weeks.  My desperate hope is to find a truly competent ophthalmologist/specialist who will team up with an infectious disease physician and also a neuro-radiology team. It is my sincerest hope that a specialty physician in any appropriate medical field; will take note of my injury and story.  I need to find those physicians who are:

1.  Objective
2.  Research oriented
3.  Expert in parasitic infestation/disease]
4.  Willing to perform the appropriate scans.

Most sincerely yours in the arts,

Roberto

I have a solution for you guys, but it means moving out for 3 months- had a massive infestation 2 years ago. Go online and buy a boatload of Nuvan pest strips. They are made in two sizes. Get the large ones. Launder and bag all clothing and linens. Yes, pour borax or boric acid on all carpets. Hang large pest strips in every room. Leave and move in with family. Take no clothing with you. Buy some cheap clothing to hold you over. Stay away 3 months. When you return, open all windows and air out thoroughly.  The nightmare will be over.

Hello
We are in the process of renovating our RV to move into. We plan on taking no clothes and nothing from our current rental residence. I am the one affected by this nightmare and thank God that he is ok. This leads me to believe that it may also have to do with a compromised immune system. Anyway, I wanted to ask you if you think I have a chance once we move away from here. Thanks,

I could cry reading this.

I sold my flat and bought a house November 2013. By June I was aware the cats and rabbits' had fleas. I then noticed what I thought was stink bugs. I now believe these to be these carpet beetles.

Being bullied at work and then having to return to a house infested with bugs, caused me to use more Methylphenidate then I was prescribed. The expected tollerance and the requirement to stay active for 16-20 hours to cope with this meant running out before the new script was provided.

Due to the ease of purchasing ethylphenidate I began to use this. Soon, by September 2014 I was using just the ehtylphenidate. I had eye distortions, throat, nose and skin tingling but naturally assumed this was due to my decent into drug addiction and were psychosis.

I quickly was admitted to rehab/detox and it was here I noticed bubbles in both my poo, wee and skin when I bathed. There would clearly been black dots and white objects in my bath water upon leaving it. However due to daily cleaning with chlorine by the end of the 18 days, this dramatically reduced.

Back home, and my health declined. Trying to tell my parents I had stuff coming out of me when I bathed only resulted in the 'SHE'S BACK ON DRUGS' comment.

As I was dealing with my personal version of hell, I thought fcuk it. If they think that,  I may as well actually use drugs. I relapsed for a week. Eventually my mother saw my bath water upon leaving and confirmed to my father I did have bugs in my skin. I was banned from my house and they commenced its refurbishment.

After wearing a ring from the house my finger swelled, landed me in hospital and three surgeries later, and again recovering in the meticulously clean NHS, again I was clearing up. I swore I would not use drugs intravenously if this hell would disappear (to God?)

After a week with no problems, all of sudden, come 10pm (8-10pm and 4-6am are hell due to their crepuscular behaviour), my vision when looking at the carpet became blurry. I cried 'Oh NO!' And queue a night of creeping noises, popping sounds and then the pain of the electric shock feeling bites. Going crazy I ended up crying in my mums bed, and not sleeping the night.

When cleaning the pets I received the painful bites again, and rushed to my resort of the bath. I then discovered they were carpets beetles, let off one one the foggers I had bought for my house, and finally felt some relief. As I did not finishing the cleaning and chose to share my revolution with my mother, only resulted in her calling the Feds, requesting an ambulance for my removal to a mental health secure ward.

Thankfully the Feds were able to establish I was perfectly sane of mind, intelligent and normal girl. They requested to take me to a hospital, and my psychiatrist works at one, so they took me there. 20 mins later I was back out, free as  bird.

My shrink believed me, the medical staff at detox, those who treated me for my surgery. Just not my parents.

I'm too scared to go home without obtaining a letter from my psych confirming I am sane, as I anticipate detainment under the mental health act.

Whilst pleased I am not mad, thanks to your revelations, I am dumb founded as to why I get bitten and no one else does.

Current symptoms
Blurry vision, visiable hairs, then black dots later
Throat, nose, mouth feeling itchy as they travel down them
Sore nose
Bubbles in poo and wee
Bubbles in skin
Chronic pain at dusk and dawn as my clothes come alive and eat the crap out of me
Longer hairs which are not hairs, but these vile creatures
Skin movement
Sudden appearance at 33 of nail cuticles
Thick layer of hard skin on feet
Fear for my sanity

Very sad London Girl, who's life isn't worth living

Could it be related somehow? The worst period I had with these bugs was when I took too much adderall and stayed up too late.
I know they’re very real but the immune system plays a role here.

I found only natural solutions help getting rid of them and taking mineral supplements together with a plant based diet. I use food grade diatomaceous earth too!
Blurry vision, visible hairs, then black dots later is exactly what I have plus what I now believe is Carpet Beetle Dermatitis.   The  dermatologist thought it could be eczema and she put me on steroids, a strong antibiotic, and ayclovir which didn't change a thing.  I'm pretty sure my dog is affected too.  Signs of Beetles are in and on everything but the worst part is they get in food (I had to throw a lot of it out including dry beans), they even eat medicine you can see where they have chewed it up!   I put everything in ziplocks but they eat through it so now I have to buy plastic containers for everything!  I developed asthma which I'm sure is related to this.

I have an issue with bird mites and they are hard to be rid of. Some horror stories I have read state that people have spent thousands of dollars to no avail. After investigating how farmers handle I found something cheap and safe to kill bed bugs, fleas, and bird mites. Food grade diatomaceous earth. Do NOT use pool grade. I actually put this in my hair and in my bed. It dries out the insects and they die. It is not poison. Look it up. It goes well into the carpet. You can get a 40 pound bag for $20. Google it. Hope this helps some of you.

Hello, I have a carpet beetle problem. Actually, since it has started raining this year, for the monsoon; we have gotten carpet beetles, mosquitoes, carpenter ants, moths, and termites. Yes, all at once. We are definitely over achievers. Well, I did some research and I found that, with carpet beetles, lots of people tend to have another infestation... Dust mites. You wouldn't even know it. I'm not saying people aren't clean enough or anything, but there is so much more dust from the beetles eating everything, and dust mites live on everything, including people. So even though they wouldn't normally be noticeable living on people, an infestation may be noticeable and people may be feeling the dust mites that live on them when they feel the itching and the crawling. Plus they normally eat dead hair and skin, but they may very well be biting people in the search for more dead things. The solution is to just keep as much dust and dirt cleaned up as possible, and keep trying to get rid of the beetles. Pest elimination places have this heat treatment now, that displaced you for around 5-10 hours unlike tenting houses which can put you out for 24-48 hours and there is no nasty chemical used that you may wind up worrying about later.

I'm at the point that I want to consult with a psychic or voodoo priestess or anyone who can explain why I have bad luck with homes!

A friend got married and I was able to take over her lease at a very good price. A couple days before she moved out and I in, she tells me there are bugs in her bed, which I bought from her along with other furniture.

Though I gave her instructions on what to do and not to do (e.g. isolate the bed to keep the bugs from going elsewhere), she put the darn mattress + mattress cover + bedding on.the.carpet and left everything there.

I was PISSED. I slept on the couch after moving in and eventually found out the bugs are carpet beetles, and for 2 weeks I have been going crazy and feel like things are crawling on me, though I've checked and they're not. I kept the bed isolated in the guest room till a couple nights ago, when it seemed like all was well. I then moved my stuff into the guest room and the bed into my bedroom. Then last night I found 2 bugs on my bed!!! I mortified!

I really would like to save the (expensive) bed I just paid for, but at any rate don't think getting rid of it will solve the problem. Will I have to? It has a box spring and padded head and foot boards  :/

In addition to vacuuming I've been spraying vinegar all over everything and wiping all surfaces and mopping with ammonia. These liquids kill the bugs, but not sure about the eggs. Does anyone know?

I'm terrified of my stuff getting infested. I did notice that the droppings are just outside the door to the balcony, and wonder if these pests came/come in from the trees outside.

Looking for diatomaceous earth now.

Have you had your appointment yet?  I'm curious what the outcome is- I've been living in misery for the last year, and have seen 6 different specialists- to no avail.  So Curious if you were able to get any answers. Alley
I have the same exact thing....going on for two years now and I have been to 40 different doctors that just write it off as I'm crazy....yet I have the proof on my body and scalp....but the doctors are all programmed that If they didn't read it in a book during school then it doesn't exist and the patient must be crazy....yet looking on line....so many people are suffering from this. Guess that's why it's called practicing medicine. I am exhausted mentally and financially from trying to find a cure myself....mine started when I took a job at the VA hospital....I'm no longer there....yet it came with me and now my life is in ruins and I've been categorized as crazy....yet my hair is coming out by the hand full now, marks all over my scalp and body...and I spend my life cleaning....I've bought and tried everything and nothing works...so now my Dr wants me to see a shrink and I refuse....why??? To learn to accept living with this? That's BS...I don't want to live like this....I have no life....
Has anyone experienced permanent hair loss, or was there re-growth once you moved to a safer location?

I'm really worried that this seemingly new infestation of larvae, grubs, fly like looking things etc could be to do with scientists messing about in the  laboratory and has it been made/created deliberately?  what a rapid way to infect people with A FLY ! germ warfare WE ALL KNOW IT'S OUT THERE AND WE ALL KNOW HOW LOTS OF THESE DESEASES  COME  FROM THESE LABS
YES I CAN HEAR SOME OF YOU SAYING "WHAT A NUTTER"  BUT ..........
..............AM I ?        I DO SO HOPE I'M WRONG ............................BUT............
.............AM I ?

You are not paranoid.  I was feeling the same things in my scalp and finally purchased a microscope to check it out.  I have found multiple live and dead larvae in my scalp.  They are so small I could only identify them with the microscope.  I have tried pyrethrum cream, hair shampoo for animals, soaking in very hot water, vacuuming, cleaning carpets - you name it and after 8 months I STILL have them crawling on me and biting me.  I find them on my pets now and in their bedding.  I have not found any damage that they've caused by eating fabrics but the fact that I can feel them crawling on me drives me crazy.  If anyone has a suggestion I'd sure like to hear it.

Meet same boat!
Seems my scalp issue is different from my body issues, and the private area is different also.  I bought H&S clinical strength, seems to work.

The Sulfur cream is for Horses, however you can make you own if you search online for it.

I am going through this since January. I think I picked the them up during travels but no way to be sure. I have witnessed two live varied carpet beetle larvae and two shells (they shed their skins). I have been experiencing hair loss/thinning. I cannot conclude that the two conditions are causally related but certainly are concurrent. I plan to move within the next two months and get rid of most of my possessions. I am going to make a doctor's appointment soon for my hair loss condition. Within the last two weeks three dark brown spots have appeared on my scalp which I believe are carpet beetle larvae as it is a similar colour and size as the ones I have seen outside of my scalp. I am hoping for the best and if they are larvae the doctor can make small incisions and extract them out of my body. I am trying to stay rational, the worst case scenario is I will go bald which is not the end of the world, I can wear wigs. I don't believe this condition is fatal as to cause death. Hoping for the best.

Yea carpet beetles are a complete nuisance. They are harmless but they could damage your clothes sheets and maybe your hair. A few land on my beautiful hair but I killed them. The best solution is exterminator. Another option is vacuum. If you see ANY larva vacuum it. You can find them on walls, floors, dusty areas, clothes, windows, beds, or undisturbed places such as behind the drawers it or even in drawers. yes they are everywhere but light is their main source. Use light to attracted hatched beetles then kill them. Vacuum larvae and immediately throw it out. Check everyday. Do forget to check closets too! I don't know where they come from but check your house for holes or cracks and fix it to prevent more from invading. Carpet beetles can fly too but only fly when they need to find light. You are not in danger and this won't affect your health but keep the house clean.

I almost forgot. They are prey to other insect such as spiders or centipedes. This is a problem because carpet beetles attract either insects so check the house for holes. Good luck
