red welts that don't itch

WE are visiting Hawaii on the big island. Three in our party have come down with red welts that do not itch nor was there a sting. We have been in the ocean at white sand beach and just returned from a kayak snorkeling trip to captain Cook . The young girls started getting these welts after surfing at high tide at the white sand beach. I have them now after my snorkeling trip to captain cook ,where ever my swimming suit was there they are. This morning them seem to have double in the number of welts. I have maybe 25 and the girls around 20. i was wearing a life preserver during the kayak trip.

We have seen a dr. and he said that they may just be bites or scabies. But scabies itch and we do not itch. He is giving us a prescription of extra strength cortisone and if they do not go away then it is scabies. How would we get scabies?

We tried to see a dermatologist but to no avail. they are all busy. If these bites area scaibes we do not want to infest the rest of our family. Help please!!

thank you martha carty

Well we have found out the culprit. Both girls and myself were at Kilauea lodge and in their  hot tub for thirty minutes. We have folliculitis and need antibiotics. We are all tired of the welts and want them to just go away. I have called the lodge and reported them to the Hawaii Health Department.

Beware of hot tubs in Hawaii mountains.

A form of sea weed dermatitis. Occasionally can cause angio-odema with out itching. The people in Hawaii call a variety of marine organisms stinging limu. Commonly would itch but sometime just welts.ok?
