about an employee

I'm not trying to be insensitive, i just don't want an employee to use diabetes as an excuse to get the schedule they want. This person has been given the same early shift every time scheduled. I am now asking that they do one 10am to 630pm shift with lunch a week as opposed to all 7am- 330shift. they say they can't do it because of their insulin. if they are being truthful, i have no problem keeping the schedule the same. Otherwise, I need my 2nd in charge to have at least one later shift. they have done it before..Is it necessary for them to be on a strict work schedule where they can't do that one day a week where they go in 3 hours later and out 3 hours later? can't they plan accordingly and bring what they need?

Maybe access to a fridge, but meds currently in user don't need fridge just room temperature.  Testing blood sugar can be since easily and is not very obvious.  "Long as they manage their blood sugar well they should be stimulate to any other employee.

Thank you for your response. It was very helpful. Any sort of breaks to test blood sugar, snack when needed, and anything they require including a place to store medicine, as well as a private place to take care of needs. They are well aware of this as well.
I do really appreciate the feedback. To better understand will help me better know what limitations this employee has. It can be a demanding job.

Hi.  For a person with type 1 diabetes it can be important that they eat on a fixed schedule, which then matches their insulin to avoid birth highs and lows.  Can you ask this person if he / she is allowed to have a meal break while in an earlier shift if it will work.

A person with diabetes can need certain considerations. Such as being allowed to test blood sugar during work, being allowed to take a snack during work.  By having normal blood sugars this person's productivity should be normal as well.

Hope this helps. Please ask more questions if we can help further.
