Up in arms

I am really stuck. I am always tired, but I cannot sleep. I have no energy, and I drag through the day in such a fog. I know I am overweight (obese) and I struggle keeping up with the kids. I do not work, so eating 5-6 times a day should not be a problem, but I never can seem to do it. I have gone through almost every diet there is. I may loose some but then I gain it right back. I am so utterly frustrated and I do not know where to even begin. I am unable to see my doctor right now, so I am on my own. Does anyone have any ideas where to start? I need to get in the right frame of mind, but I am really just up in arms...

I would suggest that you check your morning basal temperature to see if your thyroid is low. You can google for how this is done. Mary Shomon is a patient advocate with a website on thyroid problems. "Stopthethyroidmadness" is a website that will also help.  Your symptoms suggest that your thyroid is low and that possibly you have insulin resistance. The low thyroid can cause the fatigue and brain fog and taking a prescription natural hormone replacement will help. A low carb lifestyle will allow you to lose weight and keep your insulin under control. I say lifestyle rather than diet because it is something you have to do for life when you have insulin problems as most of us do.  Some brisk walks should help the low energy, lower your insulin resistance,  and also help you lose weight.

If you're always tired, you're more likely to be hungry - meaning problems are probably causing problems for you.

Do you do much exercise? If you do some proper exercise around mid-afternoon then you should sleep much better. If your mind is tired but not your body it's very difficult to sleep properly.

Also are you eating near bedtime? Or eating very processed foods with lots of additives?

Eating before you go to bed means that your body is trying to digest the food and this can prevent you falling asleep. In addition, lots of additives can affect your ability to sleep. MSG for example (monosodium glutamate (an artifical sodium product found in chinese food and lots of crisps)) causes your heart to race and can keep you awake.
