More importantly than what you eat is when you eat. You can eat after 7 but if you tend to go to bed at 9 you want to have a little protein and carb if you are hungry, like a handful of nuts and pc of fruit or yogurt, etc, noting big. Yes I know that's a dirty word. Veg and fruits are carbs as well. Your largest meal should be at breakfast time (ppl have made breakfast a food item when it was meant to be at a certain time period). Try this for just a week and see if you notice a difference. Have your largest meal at breakfast which would normally be dinner, have lunch, than have your smallest meal for dinner which would normally be breakfast, and 2-3 small snacks. The last thing you want to do is not eat. Also because you are not as active as you were, you need to consume an additional 8oz of water for every 25lbs you want to drop. Yes swimming is good however if you are not a swimming try water aerobics.
Something that may help is hing a toaist tai chi class. The tai chi has gentle movements, In the health recovery program some of the exersise are done in a chair or very gentle movements that help with flexibility and movement and balance.
You can do swimming pool exercises without getting the chlorine in your eyes, by wearing a pair of well fitting goggles. Swimming is the best low impact exercise there is. Many community pools have water aerobics that you could join.
Additionally, the more you exercise, the more strength you should get back in your joints, so the pain should become less. I find that the less I exercise, the more I hurt.
You should actually limit fruit to 1-2 servings/day since fruit has a lot of sugar, even though it's natural, and tends to spike blood sugar levels. When you do eat fruit, try pairing it with cinnamon, which tends to keep blood sugar levels more stable.
Eat lots of vegetables and lean protein, with healthy fats and make water your drink of choice.
The trick is no starch vegies fruit meat no sugar
THANK YOU ALL! All recommendations are good ones. I will try all except, the swimming. I don't swim b/c I cannot swim anymore [vertigo] and chlorine in water burns my eyes terribly. In following everyone's recommendations, I pray that I can also muster up and sustain my discipline level. I will follow up with you all in about a week to let you know how I am doing. If I slip, I may be back sooner for group support. :D
Swimming is an excellent idea, it burns a ton of calories and is (in my opinion) one the easiest, most relaxing forms of exercise. Eat 5/6 smaller meals throughout the day, rather than 3 bigger meals. Try to down a glass of water before each meal/every time you want to snack (this will help determine if you're hungry or thirsty). Also, don't eat after 6/7pm, this is bad for digestion.
Tray swimming! Its easier on the joints and many community recreation places have senoir swim days.
Your last meal of the day should always be at about 7 so you still have tome to digest before going to bed
Eat fruits a lot and avoid junk food. Have 6 short meals in a day. Sleep more so that u r body burns lot of calories.
