Bulldog allergies

My brother has a 3 1/2 year old Bulldog. His name is Tonka and he is the sweetest dog in the world. He has major major allergy issues. We have taken him to the vet several times  & a dog dermatologist (did not even know they existed). The Dermatologist said all we needed to do was wipe him down and then proceeded to charge us $300....!! VERY frustrating because its something a lot more serous than that. It seems like when my brother is out of town or at school he gets worse. The vet mentioned that bulldogs are known for attachment disorder. This might be a factor, but I think its something else. He broke out big time last night, his stomach was all red and there were little bumps, he had big cuts on his body where he had been scratching away at, and the side of his leg looked like he was loosing some hair. We took him back to the vet and they did a few tests, he has no mites, all they came up with was a bacterial infection, they could not tell us what the infection was. They prescribed, Cephalexon and Prednisone and Benadryl. They also started him on a diet. Has anyone else had these problems? Its so frustrating. Makes me so sad. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Bulldogs are notorious for having skin problems.  Could be allergies, hereditary factors, etc.  has he tried to contact the breeder he got the dog from!
Too much to type here but do a Google search for Bulldog skin problems and read up on that.  You might also look up the National Bulldog Club.  Almost every pure breed has a parent club.  A good site will usually list health issues that might affect the breed.
What diet did they start him on?
In the mean time, you might try bathing him in a mild oatmeal shampoo.  You can try a vinegar rinse but NOT if he has open sores or lesions.  Try having him lay on 100% cotton towels, when you wash them, use a vinegar rinse.
Is he on an oral flea prevention?
Do read up on skin issues fir the breed and take that to your Vet.  If not happy with him, seek another opinion.  Yes, there are Vet Dermatologists but can't say this one sounds too impressive.
Keep us posted.

Ya, we are trying him on a new food diet, I am hoping this helps. They checked for mites and he didn't have any. Poor baby, looks like he's in so much pain. They say it's common in bulldogs, but his skin looks really bad, he's so itchy
