Dalmation has no energy

Our female dalmation is about 4 years old.  She had her second liter of puppies last October.  It seems that since then she has not had the energy that she once had.  In the last three weeks, she has gotten to where she doesn't even want to get out of bed for a walk.  She is eating and does not have diarrhea.  But, she also looks very thin.  Do you know what might be wrong with her?

We live in Beijing, China.  We took her to the best vet that we knew of.  They gave her an x-ray.  Said she didn't have worms and told us that her dog food was not good enough and that she needed to eat better quality dog food.  We feel that they really didn't help much!

Jaybay,

I am on my way out the door right now to go to a different vet and have the kidneys checked.  It very well could be that the dog food we gave her was contaminated.  Oh, I hope not!!

It is not possible that she is pregnant.  Our mail died in January after some chinese neighbors put rat poison out.  We didn't know of course.  He ate some and was dead in 15 minutes.  You talk about wanting to strangle someone!!

Goodness!  What do the vets do there, for heavens sake?  As Jaybay said, your dog needs blood work to evaluate kidneys, liver, and pancreas.  Immediately.

It isn't possible she's pregnant again, is it?

I assume you heard about the US recalls of dog food last year?  Ingredients that came from China were contaminated with melamine and caused kidney failure and death in dogs and cats.  It's entirely possible that this is what is happening to your dog.  The symptoms sound so familiar to those of my dog who died of kidney failure.  Can you get your vet to run some basic blood work to evaluate the kidneys, liver and pancreas?  What are you feeding your dog?
