Fourth of July

More dogs are lost and injured on this Holiday than any other.
Please make sure your dogs are secure.  Keep them inside, if you can.
Make sure you have ID tags on them!  You would be surprised how many jump fences and escape yards or get away from their owners.
If it is hot outside fir you, it is twice that fir your animals.
If having friends over, make sure the dogs are secure and ask people not to feed them.
Had someone call me one year to say their Sheltie had Ingested a Brillo pad they cleaned the BBQ with.
Have a great and safe Holiday!!

I recall CA like NJ does not allow private use of fireworks.  I'm am out in a mixed rural area with some park land and farms still around, in fact with the park next to me and the 6 houses with gun shot range on over 100 acres means some of the fireworks I hear may in fact be gun shots, hope into a hill side, not the air   :  )

I have been giving my sensitive Westie some gravy out of the canned dog food the tow guest have for their evening meal, it is usual beef based.  I put a couple of table spoons of grave with some water on his Kibble and he LOVES it, but how his rear legs and paws are showing licking chewing - bet the small bit of gravy is causing  an allergic reaction.  I will stop, just as directed by the vet, but the dog is so full of joy to get something different and tastey to ear it is hard not to do it.

I will make a trip today to Tractor Supply and see if I can find some Salmon or Venison canned dog food to dress up his Kibble.  His Kibble is Taste of the Wild and it has a high rating on the dog food adviser.  Suppose I should also try some "probiotics"... maybe yogurt?

Would love to know how many use Thunder shirts and how effective they are.
Our County still allows fireworks sakes, one of the few that do.  Add to that the illegal ones being set off.  Been listening to them fir a week already.  Just starting to get dark here so will be hearing them until way after midnight, I'm sure. :-(

My Westie, a very barky dog is deaf so he doesn't hear the fireworks... but we are taking care of a Labradoddle that goes into a barking fit, and when I let him outside he goes around on his hind legs barking straight up in the air. His sister, a Goldendoodle is her usual quiet self.  We had a TB Golden that waws very frightened by the sound of fireworks, and a lot of other things, a real "chicken"..

It's becoming mostly quiet now, so no barking.

My daughter is here with her two dogs.  Don't anticipate too much trouble and we will be home.
Years ago, when we were in So. Calif (had just moved into that house) on the 4th the neighbors had left to meet family and left their two big dogs in the garage,  fireworks started and they broke out if the garage and chewed right through the fence into our yard, big Malmute and a Lab cross.  Shooed them back and boarded up the fence.  Fir get it, they came through 3 times and continued chewing through fences down the block! I left a note on the Dior.  Luckily, owners came back and found them.  She came over to apologize and said, "What a way to meet the new neighbors!"  :-)
Had another neighbor that had a small Sheltie that could jump a 6 foot fence.  Luckily, she always came to my house.
You just never know.  Have friends that have to tranquilize their dogs too.

Thank You Margot......Unfortunately, 2 of my crew will have to be dosed w/Zanax to even survive the noise in the distance.....My other two have no problem....I'm unsure about my Foster Dog....We shall see! I'm terrified for my two every year...The good news is they WILL NOT be lost! They will be safe and secure in the house as always......You have a Great & Safe Holiday, too! Happy Forth of July.......Karla
