Collar Mishaps

I have a 4 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Yoda and he has always had issues with his collar. My parents always made me take it off when he was a puppy if he didn't like it so now whenever I put it on, he slides around and tries to slide it off. He also just doesn't move. I mean he cowers when I put it on and everything. We are going to a pageant and he does all kinds of tricks but it has to be all on leash and I'm afraid that he just won't move. I need help, very badly because I don't know what to do. I've tried to give him love and treats with the collar on but he just still won't move :( Any help is good help at this point. Thanks for reading.

Good!  A choke chain should never be left on as a regular collar and some idiots do that all the time.

Oh, most certainly not! I have way too many things that he can get caught on!

I still think he will get over it, just ignore him.
Please do not leave a choke collar on him unless you are training, etc.

Well thank you to the both of you :) I was actually trying to do that but he just gets depressed after wearing the collar. I mean I just don't even know what to do! I don't want him to get depressed but he needs a collar!! But I tried just a regular collar with no tags and also a choker collar. He actually started responding to the choker better than the regular but he still gets depressed :/

LOL!  Agree, Blu but the dog is 4.  My puppies have always been trained to collars from a very young age and, yes, just put them on.  Little rescue I have here was not happy either.  She was probably about 4 months when we got her.  She scratched and rubbed and tried the Donkey pose but eventually got used to it.  Similar rerun after I put a tag on but adjusted quickly enough. :-)

If this were my dog, I would put the collar on, not too tight, but tight enuf so he cant get it off.  Then I would let him throw whatever fit he wants about it, while making sure he doesnt hurt himself.  I would leave the collar on until he quits making a fuss, THEN i would reward him.  I would lave the collar on as long as he is supervised.  Then I would repeat the whole process until he totally stops fretting about it, to get his treat.  Good luck! - Blu

Oh dear, 4 and not used to a collar?  What type are you using and are there tags or anything on it?
Without a fuss. I would put the collar on him and leave it on fir a while, remove it, praise and treat.  Do not remove it if he is acting up.
Do you have a nylon lead?  If so, try making a loop with the lead and just put the loop around his neck and entice him to walk with praise and treats.  The other thing you can do is just put the collar on and leave it on and ignore him except for occasional praise and pets.
When is the pageant?
