Running out of options!

I have a 6 yr old mini daschund. He has fluid in his chest and abdomen. (No bacteria in it) he has a constant fever, occasional diarrhea, and a lot of pain near his belly. He won't eat much and is losing weight rapidly. He drinks a ton of water. We've done x-rays, CT scan, scope of his belly, ultrasounds, every lab for urine, blood and stool. Everything is negative....in other words NORMAL! We are so frustrated that no one can find what's wrong with him. Other than the obvious signs he's got a slightly enlarged pancreas. Anyone have any ideas?? I'd be so grateful for some help. He's my baby....I just want to make him better. :0(

I am just wondering, since he got sick so quickly on the added Pred, if it is pancreas issues.

Oh My...I'm so sorry for you & your guy.....
I assume CHF has been ruled out? Heartworm Disease? Liver Disease (Would have shown on blood test)?  Diabetes (Would have shown on BT)?
Cushings Disease (A special Test) & how about Tick Borne Disease (Special Test)?

I'm so sorry that I can't help you......I agree with Margot, do you have a Veterinary Teaching Hospital near you?  Karla

P.S. Although far fetched; what are you feeding him?  thanks, Karla

I agree on the fever. He's been on antibiotics and not really improving but just staying about the same. When the vet tried adding a steroid (prednisone) it made him very sick pretty rapidly. I believe that indicates something infectious but we can't figure out what it could be.

I am sorry to read this and that the tests are inconclusive.  A fever would indicate something is going on.  I assume blood work was done to see if he is anemic, which could indicate internal bleeding.  Labored breathing or cough could indicate a heart problem.  Not uncommon to see this with liver problems.  Possibly a tumor that is not showing up.  Could be something wrong with the lymphatic system.  Sorry, wish I could be of more help.  If there is a Vet school within travel distance, you might try there for a second opinion.
