Yes, hope you update!!
I have been "in" dogs around here for many years, confirmation/obedience training, rescue, etc. you get familiar what is "around" in your area as to breeds, popular, in Shelters, etc. I often go to the Animal Shelter site to, as usual, find it full of Pitts, Pitt mixes, Chihuahuas and Chi mixes ( how I got the one I have now. BUT I have been noticing an increase if German Shepherds!! All adults. Very odd because, unless things have changed drastically, there just never were that many GS dogs or breeders around here. We do, however, have a GS Rescue that sets up outside PetsMart once a month. I actually sent them an E-mail about these Shepherds showing up at the Shelter on a regular basis and had they checked to see if they were any of their dogs. Any reputable rescue I know of will take a dog back if it dies not work out. Of course, that does not guarantee the adopter will return a dog to the group or notify anyone should it get out and list.
They assured me they were not their dogs. They never said they were going to try to get them out either. Odd, very odd.
I have been meaning to act like an adopter the next time they are out and see how that conversation goes.
Normally, City Shelters do not do Vet checks & of course have no records...Most are picked up as strays & those that are owner turn in usually lie anyway.........It's up to the new owner to immediately get the new dog to a Vet...That's standard procedure for SHelter dogs......Rescues/Humane Societies are quite different.....
Please let us know how everything turned out...I'm curious, now! Good luck & Thank you for adopting a Shelter Pet.....After the medical is done, you must give her weeks & weeks to adjust to her new home.....Let us know, Karla
Just getting up here on the West Coast. :-)
Hope your Vet appt is today and she gets a good exam and you can relax a little.
All this may be nothing more then results of being in the Shelter, poor nutrition, stress, etc.
You do need to take a deep breath and try to relax as this will help her settle in. If you are over anxious, she will feel this.
I assume you got her to a groomer. I know that odor they have from the Shelter. Important thing for you to do is help her settle in as to where she eats, sleeps and dies her business. Dogs feel more secure with a routine and knowing what spaces are theirs, etc.
Please update when you see the Vet and do try to follow some of the suggestions I gave you. Fingers crossed she gets a clean Bill of health. Meant to add to have him check her hips at least by manipulation.
Please come back an update.
Now, deep breath. :-)
I did have to register her tho,so I'm confused! I've never went threw a pound before and the whole process has me feeling confused, and left with tons of questions and no answers!!! I haven't had her but 24 hrs and the first part of the day was spent searching for a groomer to get her in asap because she smelled like that horrible hot, muggy, smelling pound, and the second half I've spent worried because of how she's acting ..:(
It was a dog pound. They said she was a runaway, and the owner never claimed her so they put her up for adoption. She seamed to be taken care of before she ended up in the pound, but they had no records on her,no vet info at all,and the pound was horrible conditions for her.:( I cant sleep I'm just so worried, tmrw cant get here fast enough so I can get her to the vet,I fell in love with her the min we met she's just soo sweet and kind, but I can tell she's not her norm.she just looks sooooo sad,n she's sooo tired..uhhg I'm just a mess,I know I'm rambling. Lol sorry ..thank you for responding I truely dont have one person that I know who has ever owned a German shepherd that I can talk to to ask these questions to.
Did you adopt her from a GS rescue, Shelter, private party? You have any health records on her?
Would not worry about her not eating as she is certainly under stress adjusting.
Glad you are taking her to the Vet who should do a good physical exam on her. Do voice your concerns. If possible, take in a fresh stool sample with you.
He will probably suggest a Heart worm test, if not, ask that one be done.
Her behavior may be nothing but the Vet will check her heart and possibly do some blood work.
Good luck, don't worry yet and please update.
