dog allergies

We have a Dashhound and she is on steriods for allergies.   I do not like what the meds are doing to her, is there any help for her other than steriods.  She has been to three doctors, and she has food and yard allergies.

You might want to try supplementing with Omega3.  It really helps some dogs.  I had a lab mix who would lick his paws raw and bleeding for six months of the year with the itch from seasonal allergies.  His belly and ears would flame beet red and be burning hot to the touch.  He was on every other day prednisone with minimal relief.  After six weeks of sprinkling his food with ground flax seed supplement, I noticed one day that I didn't hear the lick, lick, lick, lick, lick, lick, lick........anymore.  He was sleeping peacefully.  I looked at his paws.  They were completely healed.  I kept him on the supplement and he never had an allergy problem again.

Higher doses of quality product are needed, more than what might be in processed dog foods.  I used an excellent product from Omega Fields.  I ordered on line.  I can't speak for the effectiveness of any other brand but I was so impressed with CanineShine that I give the equine formula to my horse now and take the human formula myself!

my baby shih was on steroids asnd its not a good med it makes them gain lotsa weight mine ended up being 40 pds and that so not normal for a shih tzu, it cause hes heart to enlarge to, he took the pills and shots . shots are worse no taking it out of their systems if need to. it caused  him lots problem, i had to put him to sleep because of his enlarged heart and he could not breath. i still miss him so, but that also was after years of him being on them, a little time i think is ok but long term i would look for other ways. good luch with your baby.

Hello & welcome......Since you call her babychico, I assume your Dachshund is a baby? How old ?
What are her food and yard allergies? Was she actually tested for these or the Drs. are guessing from symptoms?
What are her symptoms? How long has she had them?
Did all three Drs. say the same thing? What did they say?
Allergies are tough, but CAN be controlled.....There is NO easy fix and patience is a must.....Steroids do give relief, but should NOT be used longterm, as they are very dangerous.....They also mask the problem, not solve it.....
Please come back with more information.......Karla
