help

Okay here it goes.....

In May 2012 I took my dog into the vet because he couldnt walk but still had moter function of his back legs they prescribed him some medication and was on bed rest for 6 weeks. He was getting better and started to run again not as well as he used to but was still improving...they never dignosed him with anything and said that thet could do xrays but not it was a 50/50 chance of even seeing anything..so the doctor recommended to do the bed rest and the pills but told me if there was no improvement to bring him back in.

he did get better so i didnt take him back in

now 3 months later I noticed that he hasnt been himself the last 2 days but woke up this morning August 22nd, 2012 and he cant move his back legs at all and wont go to the bathroom. He didnt sleep at all last night and when he trys to walk he either drags his legs behind him or scoots. I have a appt for this morning with the doctor to check him out again, but was curious to any other suggestions or if this is it for my little man..

please help me my little man is my world.

with Misfits4me.  Get to a teaching vet school.  It could be several things besides the orthopedic.

If funds are an issue there are charities that can help and carecredit may help too but watch the payment schedule with that plan.

What you were originally treating was a herniated Disc of the spine......Now, the disc has ruptured.....Thus, the rear end parallysis.....Classic sign of IVDD (Intervertabral Disk/Disc Disease)......This is all treatable with the correct protocol....There also is a surgery to correct it...You need to google IVDD and go from there.....The medications & crate rest are vital during episodes.......

If you are interested in the surgery, a Veterinary teacing hospital has the best prices....There are 27 in the US...A Specialized surgery center will charge you almost twice as much!

The greatest chance of reversing the paralysis is in the first 36 hrs. of the rupture.......Please let us know what your Vet says....Good luck, I'll be thinking about you both....Karla
