ok got it ,...once should be ok ,but if they want more it ok to ,....its not to warm now
there is lots of fresh water out for them ,....
oh!! indeed i know it can be hard work lol...lol....thanks again for everything ,....
Once will likely be enough for her to get pregnant. But during those few days they will probably mate a lot more than once. As long as they are both ok with this, and not getting exhausted or dehydrated, let them do exactly as they like. (Do make sure there is a big water dish out in the yard for them, especially if it's warm weather, as this is all hard work ! lol!)
good morning ginger ,.......they wont see me watching them i will be watching them from my conservatory its all windows ,.....they cant see me but i will have a good few of them ,
just to see she will be ok ,and today she is doing more sniffing at him than he is doing at her ,.lol.oh!! and another thing when it happens and they do get stuck will they have to do it again or will that be it ??.......i will keep you updated on them thanks ginger for everything ,.....
Well, they are rolling along with Nature until it comes to the 'stuck' part. The first time this happens they don't much like it, but aren't really frightened. They just go with it in a sort of 'resigned' way. As it's their first time I would keep a kind of 'eye on them' when they mate, like I said, to make sure they don't get into weird positions which might be painful. They might not like you watching -(so funny....but true!) -for the main part....but it might be possible to keep a sneaky watch on them. As I once saw a female thrown into the most awful position on her back underneath the male, and her spine was being strained, so I gently re-positioned her on her feet.
Snapping at him is classic. Females do this when they aren't quite ready. Give it a few days and she will be different. Once that 'window' of a few days in the middle of her heat has passed by, she will snap at him again when he tries to mate (which he probably will) This is natural and right, so don't scold her for doing this. Leave it to them.
yea hes really gentle with her and hes even pushing his little toys over to her to play with
lol.......
.yes Ive seen her snap at him a few times yesterday ,....he hasn't gone near her today hes been gentle with her as you can see ,.....ok i see now what you are trying to say ,.....so i think it will be another few days before anything will happen ,..
when it happens i will watch them closely ,...are they more frightened when its there first time ,..i mean when they get stuck toghter ?....and is it ok just to leave them alone
each day in the yard ?....jack seems so gentle with her i think he wont do it ,..
i know im been silly but i really do want one of his pups lol...
anyway thanks i know now i was a bit worried about them today ,.....
Well it looks like they are doing some smooching to me! This looks more like gentle love than lust!
When female is in heat, it's for approx. 3 weeks. She is only ready for mating for about 5 days right in the middle of this period. At the times she isn't ready she will actually physically repel him if he tries anything. If by chance that has happened it may have cooled his ardour. But believe me things will probably change if they are brought together during the 'middle' week of her heat. No doubt Nature will take its course.
Don't be worried if they get stuck together during mating, and end up back-to-back, and can't get apart even though they might want to. That phase usually lasts about 10-15 minutes though can be longer. The male dog has a kind of 'knot' high on his penis, and the female's vaginal muscles spasm to hold him inside her. That's Nature's way of making sure she gets pregnant.
The best thing to do when this happens is just stand by to make sure the female doesn't end up on her back underneath him in a bad position which might strain her. If it's their first time, a little calm assurance helps at this stage, or even a drink of water, because by now they are tired and don't much like this part.
Otherwise leave them to it!
