Dalmatian and atrophy

My Dalmatian, Abby, was injured about 6 weeks ago.  I have no idea how she was hurt. Abby is a loving and playful 8 year old Dalmatian. My guess is she hurt herself chasing squirrels. Her injury is to her right shoulder. She has atrophy in that area and it has impacted her lung function. Her doctor has never treated anything like this before.  We did x rays and have had her on an antibiotic bc it seemed like the injury has caused pneumonia like symptoms. Abby is not in pain. She drags her front paw and will cough at times during the day.   I am in search of treatment  or a cure. Has anyone heard of a case like Abby's before.   My heart is broken because she is truly an amazing dog.  Before the injury, she was in perfect health.

Has she had an xray of the spine? Particularly the neck area? I'd look for a tumor there...It would fit the symptoms.....Good luck, Karla

Our closest Vet school is UC Davis, about an hour and a half away.  I took dogs there some years ago, as many of my friends have over the years.  Definitely worth the trip.  I would try to contact them ASAP or consult another Vet.

The closest vet school is an hour and a half away. Yesterday, the vet decided she has lung cancer. It makes no sense. The x ray does not show any type of tumor.  It only shows white shading across her right lung where it should show black on the x ray. Abby still wags her tail and has her personality.  I am wondering now if it is some type of fungal infection.

You have a Vet school near you?  This dies not sound good.  I would seek out a Vet school or possibly get a second opinion.
