Hi , I was just wondering why my 7 month old Bull Mastiff X / mix , won't do his business when i take him for walks he won't go / do a number 1 or 2 and should he of learnt to **** his leg by now ?
Where DOES he do his business and pee? Is he doing it at all? Is this a situation where he can't do anything? Or that he's doing it somewhere else? If he can't go at all, he desperately nees to see the vet. Especially if he cannot pee. If he's doing it somewhere else, then he's not looking at his walks as "toilet time". He must be regarding another place as his "toilet".
The way to deal with this is to actually take im for a walk at the times when he needs to pee and poop.
Every dog I have ever known needs to pee and almost definitely poop pretty soon after they get up in the morning. So I'd say that to start off, you should take him out as soon as you've showered, had your coffee, or even before!
Then again in the afternoon, and the evening. Many dogs do their business 2 or 3 times a day. They pee quite frequently especially if they drink enough. But of course you probably can't take him for a walk every single time he needs to pee. He might do some in the garden.
However, that will "mark" his "peeing places" or him, so he'll be more inclined to go again in the same places he's already been.
As for c-o-c-k-ing his leg, most young male pups squat like females at first, till they grow up a bit.
That way he'll soon start to associate walks with doing his business.
