Ear wax production stimulated by Cod Liver Oil ??

Hi, I wear earplugs & headphones etc due to the nature of my job, this results in a lot of ear wax build up & i've have had a few instances of excessive ear wax over the years which has resulting in syringing.

I first had them syringed in 2005, & then at the start of 2011 they got blocked & needed syringing again. Fair enough i thought, getting them syringed every 5-6 years isn't much of a problem. But my farther suggested that if i start taking Cod Liver Oil it should actually soften the wax to the point where it comes out more naturally, hence i might not need to have them syringing again at all. So i did, i started taking Cod Liver Oil every day, & i did notice more, softer wax, coming out my ears on a regular basis. BUT, now i've just had to have them done yet again at the start of this year. (2012) I only had them done a year ago, so something seems to have made me produce more wax in this short space of time, & i'm assuming it can only be one of two things, ether the fact i'm having them syringed more (which just makes it worse anyway) or the CLO.

Does anyone have any idea if it might be the Cod Liver Oil? I've read all over the net that CLO helps with ear wax if you’re deficient in the oils & minerals it contains, but, i'm thinking if i wasn't deficient, then has it actually increased my production of it unnecessarily? I also found this, which suggested it might be the case... http://www.greenpasture.org/fermented-cod-liver-oil-butter-oil-vitamin-d-vitamin-a/reposting-old-information-on-clo-and-ear-wax/?back=javascript:history.back%28%29;

If the excess build up isn't due to the CLO then fair enough, i'm happy to keep taking it as it does soften the wax. But, if it's actually giving me an over production of the stuff then I would rather stop, that way maybe I’ll be able get back to not having to have them syringed so often.

Any views or opinions would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

I was wondering if ever figured out what was causing your excessive ear wax.  I have been taking fermented cod liver oil for about 8 months now and have had to have my ears syringed 3 times in that time.  I had never had them syringed before.  It also coincided with me stopping using Q-tips to clean my ears, though, so I'm not really sure what the cause is.

Good question, I don't know why it says that! Maybe a couple of replies were deleted for some reason?

Seven days of olive oil!? Ugh, I think that's a little excessive!

No idea. But I CAN tell you that I've had to have my ears syringed ever more frequently over the years. I started in my mid-20s needing it done every couple of years. Now (at age 55) I need it done 3 times a year. Doctors say this is not at all unusual, to see an increase in earwax production over time. I've asked whether getting it cleaned out more frequently causes production to ramp up, but they always say no.

A great trick to ease the syringing process is to put several drops of plain cooking oil or baby oil (who knows, maybe cod-liver oil would work too!?) in your ear in the evening, then lie on your side for about 20 minutes, then do the other ear. During this time I will shift my head slightly now and then until I feel the oil trickling and tickling deep into my ear (though I don't always feel it). Put cotton in your ears to hold the oil in. Do this one or (preferably) two nights in a row, then go to your doctor's office and have them syringe and pick out the wax--it will come out pretty easily.

I do this two nights in a row. After the first night, in the shower the next morning, I use a bulb syringe and hot water to syringe out as much as I can (keeping the syringe tip only at the entrance to the ear canal, not pushing it in). This may partially unblock my ear OR may plug it even further as the softened wax spreads and plugs the canal. So I do it on a day when I don't have to go to work! Then to the doctor the next day for a full clean-out.
