Water Blister

For atleast the past month, I have one reoccuring water blister that occurs in the same exact spot.  It is in the back of my mouth diagonal from my tonsil on the side/roof of mouth.  Initially I would pop it to let the water out, but two days later it always came back.  So I left it alone.  It starts small, grows and grows as it fills with water, and eventually minimizes on its own, but if I remove the skin once it has minimized it bleeds very minorly.  Then within days it is back again.  It is driving me nuts b/c it is just an awkward feeling.  I don't really have any other symptoms except that for the past month of so I have also been physically weaker for some odd reason.  I go to the gym three times a week to lift weights and for the past month, I have struggled emmensly to lift the same weights that I have lifted for months.  Plus I am often sore afterwards which prior to this past month I am never sore after the gym.  I have no idea if its related but the timing coincides.  I was hope that a doctor or person might be able to chime in with some advice/possible causes and if I what type of physician I ought to see for this.  I am also not sure if this is posted in the right spot, so if its not feel free to let me know.  Thanks.

Did you every find out what is wrong with your throat?  I have the same thing exactly.  I went to the doctors back in October she put me a zpack then I went back 2 weeks later and she put me on 10 days of augmenten (excuse my spelling).  It continued so I went to an ENT and he told me that it is post nasal drip.  But I can't take it.  I notice sometime when I eat certain things like an apple it will pop out too.  I do have alot of post nasal drip but you would think that once it popped it would go away.  It is not that it hurts but it's just annoying.

Hey, nope, I have an appointment with the ENT in one and a half weeks.  I am hoping the blister is there when I go, as I went to my PCP and it wasn't there so I think she was at a lost.  It drives me nuts too.  As a matter of fact it reappeared last night and now I have to have this annoyance for the whole day or two.  I sure like the few days that it disappears and cuts me a break  :-)   I will let you know what the ENT says after I see her.

My husband thinks that I am nuts.  Although when he looks down my throat he can see it.  Mine came back this morning.  When you look at it it is like a pimple. It doesn't hurt.   There is a part of me that thinks it could be stress related.  I do have alot of post nasal drip which would go with what the ENT I saw said.  But I have always had post nasal drip.  I have also had an on and off ear ache for the past couple of months too.Like drainage.  The ENT also said that was from the post nasal drip.  I was thinking about using Musinex.    I also have sinus headaches when the weather changes.  The weather all fall and winter have been bad where I live.  One day 65 the next day 30.   Please let me know what the ENT says to you. I know what you mean about hoping that it is there when you go.   I just told my husband that I am going to give a little more time then I am going back to the doctor.  Good Luck!

When I was younger I used to have a single blister on my soft pallet every so often. I'd also sometimes pop them myself. I know we have tiny salivary ducts throughout our mouths so I always just assumed the blisters were caused by a harmless blockage. I'm almost 70 now and don't have the blisters anymore so mine must not have been caused by anything serious.

Hey,  I went to the ENT this morning.  She said that it is a blocked/clogged salivary gland.  She knew right away what it was.  She said she has had it herself.  She said that they usually clear up on their own and if after another month or two if its still there to call her.  She said that it is usually way more painful to go in and try and rememdy it and often doesn't solve the blockage.  Hope this helps.

Did she say why it gets larger then goes away for a day or two then comes back?  You would think that it would just keep getting bigger.  I always think of questions to ask after I go.   My ENT said that it would go away on its own also but he said that it was from post nasal drip.   Anyway  I hope they go away soon!  Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Holy moses, I feel so relieved after reading this. I have the same thing too right at the point where my soft pallette joins the hard pallette just in front of the nasal/mucous holes, and it keeps dissapearing just before my doctors appointment comes round. i'm due back to the doctors next Friday if its there she's going to refer me to ENT. Its driving me nuts too and my wife is going beserk because she's telling me not to worry about it. Its just so random. Sometimes it comes up after a pork roast dinner, sometimes not... then i thought i suddenly became allergic to pototoes. ALWAYS in the exact same spot in my mouth. Sometimes it flares up and feels like a sharp point to my tongue, and I've been able to pop it other times it just goes after 2 or 3 days, and I can feel it bursting by its own accord. Its done this 6-7 times since late september.

whats causing the blockage? Did your ENT say what would happen if it didn't go away or any advice on what to do/

Hey guys,

okay to answer the questions:  it gets larger and goes away b/c it pops basically.  It comes back b/c of the blockage...when there is enough blocked salavia it starts to protrude out.

What causes the blockage she said could be anything from burning the roof of your mouth to other things.  She said if it doesn't go away I should call her in two months.  She said she can go in and try to unblock it, but it is very painful and often the blockage is not cleared.  The reason it comes up after you eat, is because your salavia glands are working extra salavating when u eat.  Makes sense huh!

I have one that occasionally appeared during high school - I would get it once in a blue moon - like maybe once a year.  The doctor then told me that it was probably an infected pore.  Now suddenly I'm getting them almost every day for the past few weeks.  Sometimes one, sometimes two.  One day I had three.  They are all underneath my tongue.  Man, you talk about annoying!  My general doctor told me today that it probably was a blocked salivary gland.  The procedure sure does sound painful.  He says that sucking on a sour candy might help open the glands and kind of flush them out.   I hope they go away real quick like!

OMG I am so glad I came across this webpage.. This exact thing has been happening to me for the past few months and I thought it would be must more serious than this. It feels like a pimple super far back in my mouth/throat and usually I can reach back and get it with my nail to pop it because I can't stand swallowing and feeling it there (It feels like when you get a popcorn kernel stuck in the back of your throat and try for hours to get it out). It seems to get worse when I eat spicy/acidic food like curry or apples, but sometimes it will happen after I eat something more simple like a bowl of cereal, etc. I usually get it about every other day, although for the past week it seems like it has been popping up every day. Idk how long it lasts because within half an hour of feeling it I pop it. I'm just glad it's not more serious (We've had throat pollup problems in our family and so my mind automatically went to that). Oh well, definitely could be worse :)

Unfortunately mine has returned.  Yep, it is totally annoying.  I guess it is like a friend that you cannot get rid of, lol.  I did not return to the doctor, since I know it will eventually go away.  Who knew so many others experienced the same thing!

So reading these comments gave me a big relief and a good laugh.  Something so small yet SO weird and irritating.  My story is exactly the same as the rest of you.  Happens while I'm eating, comes and goes for a few days, goes away, then returns later.  Can't peg any particular kind of food that sets it off, except maybe salty foods?  Has anyone noticed that connection? I don't pop it.  Think it would gross me out.  Just keep putting my tongue back there thinking I have something stuck behind my teeth.  I have been having a lot of fever blisters lately and wonder if there is any connection between the two.

aw what a relief. . .i have had this experience as well . . .have searched Internet to no avail (in fact Med Help has another section where this question was asked and doc couldnt answer!) And my clear blisters dont last long enough to diagnose. . .mine also form within hours. so all same symptoms.

I have found that if i do get a blister i am careful to pop it into a paper napkin so as to absorb the liquid. I have found that this drastically diminishes reoccurrence. My theory thus has been that it could be a purging or detox of some sort as just simply popping a blister in the past has created more.

I too am so relieved to read this, I've had this off and on for many months now, the exact same symptoms, SAME spot all the time!  What I'm finding is working is to take Reactine, this stops the post nasal drip and I don't usually get the blister afterwards. I feel better at least knowing its not something more serious although it is very annoying at times!

Just a follow up. Went to a specialist soon after my post Jan 30th 2008, they cut it out and did a biopsy came back as showing nothing sinister, in fact nothing at all. The blister went away then came back but to a much lesser extent for about 2 months on and off and then it disappeared completely and it's not bothered me now in almost 3 years... What a relief! I actually put this down to a mouth injury caused by a very sharp piece of pork crackling breaking off and cutting the roof of my mouth. Every time I ate pork, it was like my mouth was allergic to it. It must have taken a while for the pork to break down and disappear from that region. So if you have this, maybe you accidentally cut your mouth or caused an injury to one of your small saliva glands up there. It will go away eventually, but get it checked out anyway like I did.

I had never had one of these until about three weeks ago.  I am on a meal-replacement diet and notice that it happens right after eating one of the bars.  It will go away and then recur within two or three days.  It looks like a pimple, but I cannot pop it.  I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow for an unrelated matter, and if it is still there, I will get her to look at it and report back.

What a relief.  I've had a tiny blister in the same spot for the last year.  I'll pop it and it may or may not come right back.  Thought I was alone on this one.  Thanks to everybody for sharing.

Thanks everyone - this has helped me!  I have been getting little hard small blister with clear liquid in them on my cheeks and roof of mouth since I was a teenager and they hurt until I pop them and I'm fine.  Then for the last couple of months I've been getting a large liquid filled one in the same spot on my check close to where the joints come together.  I looked up canker sores and etc, but it's not the same (thank God!) because there is no red circle and they don't hurt really bad or are anywhere near the inside of my lips - just cheeks and back roof of mouth.  I feel much better after reading all of this.

I've been getting those little blisters too and no one could figure it out.  hearing that it's a blocked salivary gland makes sense because I have Sjogren's which affects the salivary gland.  At least I know I'm not crazy, glad to hear people describe the exact same symptoms...

OH i am so glad I read this. I was convinced I had oral cancer or oral herpes or something terrible. I have had this exact issue for months now. I brought it up to my doctor at a physical and she patted me on the head and told me it was a chancre sore and to get over it.
After reading this I am convinced I have exactly what everyone else is saying. It has been driving me CRAZY for 4 months now. I can always feel it. I sometimes get a few days break from it and then it returns. "scraping" it only makes it take longer to go away.

I just got back from the ENT who has no idea whats wrong with me! I have been getting clear blisters in back of my throat on the upper right side every time I eat. Now I feel like I burnt the top and back of my throat because it feels like sandpaper all the time just like when you eat something too hot. When I swollow it feels like a popcorn kernel is stuck there but also sandpaper feeling going down my throat. I tried changing my foods to non spicy but I even get this eating ice cream! Any ideas or suggestions? The blister doesnt hurt but my throat feels burnt and raw. Thanks
