white spot on tonsils?

I need some help. I've got a white spot on my tonsils that has been present for over a month and a half, now. It hasn't changed in size at all, either.

I first noticed it when I was having problems with my throat. My throat was dry, and I was coughing a lot, and I could barely speak. This condition lasted about 2 days, before it stopped. Oddly, enough, my throat never appeared to be red at all. (I assumed it to be strep, or bronchitis, but my throat looked visually normal enough- asides from the spot).

Anyways, I finally got around to seeing a doctor about it, and she first thought it was simply food that got stuck in my tonsils. She tried to remove it, herself, with some sort of medical tool. She even attempted to pierce it with a toothpick. But, she didn't have any luck with either attempt.

She said it wasn't food, nor a pus spot. She said it feels rubbery, and is actually attached to the tissue (on my tonsils). She doesn't even know what it is, herself. She ended up giving me a referral to an eye/throat/nose doctor, to get it looked at.

Anyone have any idea what this mysterious white spot might be?

I just wanted to let you know I'm not an ENT but the first time I ever saw this was on my daughters tonsils and her throat wasn't sore either. It was tonsilitis.  She had her tonsils removed and it was caused from strep throat.  Please believe me if it isn't coming off it is not food.  My daughter said mom I have something white in the back of my throat.  I looked and at first I thought it was food.  I immediately took her to the Doc and they knew right away.  If I were you I'd find a new Doctor just a little FYI. Tonsils have pits, known as "crypts." The outer surface of the tonsil, including the crypts, is covered by a "skin" called mucosa. This lining sheds (just as your skin sheds constantly, usually without your awareness). In some individuals, shed tonsil mucosa can build up within the crypts. This accounts for the white spots.

Relax,in case you are facing no symptoms, nothing is to be done.Try gargles along with expectorants.
