bad smell only from nose

Hi!I am a 21-year university student.I have a big problem~bad smell from nose.Very bad smell!I have had it for 5 years.It let my life so hard.I found it diffucult to contact people.I don't konw where it had come from.During the dark 5 years,I have met several ENT doctors and made CT scan.But there is nothing,all is well except chronic rhinitis .No nasosinusitis and atrophy rhinitis .I had some medicine including Chinese medicine and washed my nose by salt water.It is still there.My nasal mucus flows backwards and sometimes I feel my nose dry.There is a notice that 5 years ago,I once lived with my sick pet dog in a room.She had an unpleasant smell.I don't know whether there is a connection.Please help me.Thanks!

Hi Paris1988!  I am so sorry it took me this long to respond to your post.  Yes, the smell I was experiencing is finally gone!!!  It took over 6 months though after I had the tooth in question pulled.  As I posted b4, the prob I had with the smell was coming from granulation tissue (scar tissue), that had formed in the open space of my cracked tooth.  There is no telling how long I lived with the smell, as I could not smell it, and even after the smell became so prominent, no one would be honest with me about it.  The only reason I even found out about the problem, is because I'm smart enough to know when people are "attempting" to talk about me over my head!!!  I have spent countless (and I do mean countless) hours on the internet trying to find an answer or reason for the smell.  I can tell you from experience, don't waste your time with ENT so called specialist.  My ENT referred me to a shrink after I kept insisting that the smell existed.  I initially thought the smell was coming from my nose, but it was really coming from the back tooth, going up the back of my throat, to & threw my nose.  People literally 10 feet away from me could smell it.  I could never spend too much time in any 1 place, without smelling the place up to be damned!  I had to quit my job because of it, out of sheer exhaustion & embarrassment!!  I would advise you, unprofessionally of course, to have that cracked tooth pulled.  After that, the smell will go away initially.  The smell might come back in a day or two, when the granulation tissue forms again, but as the tissue dissolve, the smell will slowly dissolve with it.  Whatever you do, please don't use peroxide, or peroxide type products on the extraction site!  The peroxide will help the tissue form even more.  Just brush your teeth as usual, staying away from the extraction site of course.  And good luck!!  Trust me, I know your pain.......
