I am from Perth Western Australia and suffered from smelling exhaust fumes and my ENT specialist diagnosed Cacosmia which is the imaginery smelling of odours.
He indicated that nothing could be prescribed to treat the condition but overtime it cleared but now I am very sensitive to perfumes.
I also spoke to another doctor who pointed the cause of my condition to travelling on a certain wide body airline whos exhaust fumes mixed with the cabin air causing the body make up to change. For the record I did travel with Tiger airlines to Singapore shortly before my condition began.
One disturbing point he told was that the Australian Government held a Senate inquiry into this anomally but as usual no action resulted.
Hello and hope you are doing well.
The bad smell could be due to a sinus infection, a cold or a throat infection. Sinus infections can cause stuffiness of the nose with nasal blockage, which can make breathing through the nose difficult. It can also cause post nasal drip and lead to an irritation in the throat, which can cause a throat infection. Ensure to take your antibiotic for the required number of days. In the meantime practice good breathing exercises, humidify your room and do steam inhalations and salt water gargling.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
I'd certainly be more worried if the bad smell stayed around after the antibiotics are done. If it is BV, yes that can certainly smell bad.
