I'm 19 and female and I had my tonsils removed May 11th, making this day 8 after my surgery. To be honest, I didn't expect this to be bad AT ALL, but it's absolutely terrible. I'm having worries. I received instructions on what to do after surgery and some of it's vague or I just can't do what the instructions are saying I should be able to do at this point. My instructions say to start eating solid foods during the second week - there's no way for me to do this. I've been eating ice cream and baby food, anything else I simply can't do due to pain. I slowly chewed a strawberry today and it was okay, but the juices set my throat on fire and I'm afraid to start eating anything else that could be considered solid. The last 2 days, WATER has been burning my throat. And everyday since the surgery I sleep in agony. I wake up every 3 hours and take the pain medicine (instead of 4), because I legitimately need it, and the pain is worse when I'm sleeping. I've also been drooling the since day 1, and Now serious ear pains have started. My doctor said nothing about ear pain or drooling. I'm trying to chew gum to loosen my jaw and even open my mouth, but I can't even open my mouth up enough to stick my tongue out. My instructions said the scabs would loosen and bleed 7-10 days and I haven't bled yet, but I was doing research online and found some places saying not everybody bleeds. Is this true? If I do bleed, what am I supposed to do? The instructions also said I would be sore for 7-10 days, but some places online had said they didn't feel completely better until two full weeks after. Does it just depend on the person? Is there a general timeline for when I shouldn't be feeling sore?Again, the instructions said that one day I would wake up feeling better out of the blue, but I feel like I did the first day after surgery. is this true? When will I be able to eat without soreness? I hope I don't sound like some exaggerating wimp - the second day after surgery I threw up 7 times at 3am and was taken to the ER, where I was pumped with morphine and some nausea drug for 2 hours. The morphine wasn't enough for my pain, they added something stronger (so they told me, I didn't know there was anything stronger than morphine). I didn't know the pain would be this.. intense, I guess. As of today the pain is very concentrated to the right side of my throat and my right ear. I'm thirsty and hungry but I physically just can't do anything but water occasionally. I just don't know what I'm supposed to do. I'm really, really frustrated to the point of tears. I'd call my doctor but I go back for a follow up appointment the 26th, and I can barely talk for him to make sense of me on the phone anyway. I'm tired of the pain and I want to get back to work and get back to having ANY energy at all. any help or advice, please.
