42 year old male with a very "faint"/suspect positive rapid monospot test. I recently came back from spending 2 months overseas in 3rd world countries. Jet-lag so not getting sleep and stressed out about all sorts of stuff. So I assume my immune system is compromised from anxiety and sleep deprivation. HOWEVER, the Only symptoms I've had so far are blurry-er vision, migraine-like headache (all over head, not localized in one spot) and tender neck lymphnodes. No fatigue, no sore throat, no sinus issues, Nothing but sore lymphnodes in neck (mostly on one side) and headache. MAYBE (and I mean maybe) I had a sore feeling where my spleen would be for 15 minutes. That's it, headache was intense for a day or two - now mostly what is left is blurry vision sometimes, headache after watching tv/some photosensitivity and tender lymph node on the left side of my neck. And perhaps two or three very tiny pimple like things on that side of the neck - not enough to consider a rash or anything. Also at night my hands burn and itch intensely. I thought perhaps all was psychosomatic due to anxiety. (well I also thought it was HIV which doesn't help with the anxiety either, and it is too soon to get a reliable test for that, and although I am promiscuous with some unsavory partners - all insertion has been oral or vaginal with condom, some expired but nothing noticeably broken).
When I went to the doc, negative strep - and slightly positive rapid mono test: initially negative McKesson brand test, But after a While (longer than the 15 minutes the test instructions suggest - or at least seemed like it) the doc asked the nurse to change the test results to positive because if he held it up to the light there was a very very faint positive indication.
Thoughts??? Has anyone else seen this in a middle aged person?
