ebv relapse

i am a 43 year old healthy guy in very good shape i had Epstein bar 5 year ago. this year is been very stress full for me because of Cancer in the family and a lot of other issues. after an episode of food bad enteritis in Colombia where i went to the emergency for dehydration and i had an iv for 8 hours and i was checked with a blood test but without any finding. the doctor told me that i had a bad enteritis. i started to feel like i had a super infection with a virus maybe the same that gave me the enteritis. i didn`t rest and i continued to work out pretty hard. (run half marathon and a prepared for a triathlon) my symptoms at the time were just a mild sore throat. after 2 weeks i decided to stop my physical activity and i am suddenly felling worse. i just dont feel my self i have a slight enlargement of my lymph nodes, tingling on my feet and hands frequents urinations generalized anxiety i feel the same way i felt few year back when i had epstein bar. is it possible that i have a relapse? thanks jimmy

I don't know if all of those things are normal or not, but believe me, I experienced all of them!  I actually lost about 20 pounds in the time I was sick (I've since gained it back), and I've heard of others who have lost even more.  I know the fatigue and everything made me very anxious, especially worrying about chronic fatigue, since it took me over a year to get over the illness.  I think one of the worst things was feeling so tired yet not being able to sleep!  Anyway, you're definitely not the only one going through this!  If this sickness continues to give you trouble, you should really see your doctor, especially if you haven't yet.  Hopefully things will start getting better for you!

I'm not sure what you mean by "how long".  Based on my experience, the more you try to continue normal activity levels, the longer it will take your body to fight back the virus.  I'm not saying you have to be completely bed-ridden, but I would try to really take it easy until you're consistently feeling better.

Hi Jimmy, from what I've heard, not only is it possible, it's quite likely, especially given your recent circumstances.  I had a relapse happen to me after I resumed working out and a normal schedule too soon after the initial illness.  Unfortunately it took much longer to get over the second time.  I'm not trying to scare you, but I do want to be honest; I would suggest taking it easy as much as possible and getting plenty of rest.  And, as I mentioned, stress is also a big factor; it's difficult to do anything about it, but it's a factor nonetheless.  I strongly recommend doing whatever you can to minimize these possible relapse factors.  Hope you get feeling better soon!
