Brown spot and bubbles in the white of my eye

Hi,

I've had the brown spot in the white (the conjuctiva?) of my eye, near the black (the iris?) of my eyes for a few years now but it doesn't actually cause any pain or discomfort. I figured it was probably just some kind of discoloration because I am a smoker and have been since my university days (since 2001) but have been trying to cut down. I have always ignored it as I didn't think it was anything serious.

However, today, my friend commented that there are 2 clear bubbles that has appeared near the brown spot. I took at look and although it didn't really cause much discomfort, just makes my vision a little blurry occasionally, I was a little concerned as this is a new development.

Please advise what it is or if it is anything to be concerned about. I am looking into making an appointment with an opthamologist as soon as I find a suitable one. Any comments or suggestions would be most welcomed and appreciated.

Thank you.

Thank you for your advice on this, I'll be making an appointment with an ophthalmologist soon.

Just out of curiousity, is the iris nevus a smoking related side effect? I understand from your comment that this is very common in caucasians and blacks, however I am of asia origin and i suppose this has only developed in the last 3/4 years. It's not painful but I realise it has also become more prominent in colour (as in it has gotten darker over time).

Your kind attention and advice is much appreciated as always. Thank you.

The brown spot is like a freckle called an iris nevus. Unless is changes no need to do anything to it. Very common is caucasians, normal in blacks.

The two bubles are probably conjunctival cysts. Very common also. Unrelated to the spot.

Have an eye exam anyway with an ophthalmologist. Find one at www.aao.org
