I am a bit confused about staphylomas. I have read that something like 80-90% of high myopes have a staphyloma of some sort and I have also read that, by the age of 60, 50% of people with staphylomas in both eyes will be legally blind. This seems like an incredibly high percentage and seems to suggest that 50% of highly myopic people will be blind by the age of 60. Does anyone know if this is true or have I somehow misread something? Could someone also please explain what it is about staphylomas that causes blindness as I can't find much about it on the internet. Do staphylomas result in complete blindness or partial loss of central vision? Thank you
