Does he have hope to see again?

I am writing on behalf of a friend who had retinitis pigmentosa with strong family history (sister & grandmother). His visual acuity is hand motion yet he was told his macula is normal when he had Optical coherence tomography test. Does he have hope to see again? and what is the correlation with macular lesions and visual acuity in retinitis pigmentosa?

My sister also have R.P and her vision is 20/200, She don't want to do OCT because She is afraid of bad news.. my question is "should she expect abnormalities in her macula if she do OCT ?"

Thank you in advance

I doubt this eye with RP and handmotions vision has a normal macular OCT.  Get a second opinion from a retinal specialist.
