Eye moved out while yawning now I Dr. Says I have strabismus?

I don't understand how this happened. My eye allergies were acting up, and my eye were itchy, watery. I have Tmj, and had accidently at the end of stressful day had taken 2 or 3 doses of Flexaril 10Mg so a total of 20 or 30. I yawned trying to not further irritate my TMJ, keeping my mouth almost closed. I felt what felt like my left eye moved out and to the side a bit.  I thought the eye always stayed in the socket so I thought nothing of it. Just rubbed my eye hard thinking "well if it did move out then that would fix it"  I go to look in the mirror, and I can not no matter what I do I can't look straight.  i think maybe I am just tired. Went out the next day, and my right eye looked forward comfortably, but something was definately different my left eye didn't feel like it was looking straight. I could not look directly in other peoples eyes, and noticed double vision. I took some pictures of myself the next day, and was horrified to see that my left eye looked like it had moved out. I didn't see this in the mirror I could only look at one eye at a time. I called my a general Opthomologist, and was embaressed so I underplayed my symtoms hoping they would resolve. About a week into this I started getting dizzy to the point of losing my balance, loosing my foothing like I was drunk! (I don't drink) I also had and nausea, and more of the double vision. A few weeks of this a Neuro-Opthomologist confirmed the change and diagnosed me with stabismus. At this point I have been favoring my dominant eye, my right eye. and everything in the left eye is a blurry loss unless I cover the right. I tried explaining I was fine until, the flexaril, odd as sounds my yawning, and feeling like my eye actually moved out.  He was in room for maybe 3 minutes, and would not even hear of it. (Made me feel quite stupid to be honest) this occured one minute to the next, and only after that..  Now 2 months have passed still have the double vision, eye pain, and worried. since the Dr said I had three options Patch, Prism, or the Strabismus surgery. I wonder if anyone knows what could be going on?  My eyes were always fine. No Strabismus/ double visiom ever. Just very nearsited/slight Astigmatism. This happened fast, have had eye pain, and don't think I need surgery.  If the eye "moved out" could it just be moved back? Why would a sugeon have to mess with my muscles that were healthy if it was instant onset? Couldn't it just be the eye moved out, and by forcfully rubbing outward made my eye do this? While I do have crosseye / eye misaligment at the moment. I don't know what to do. Surgery doesn't seem like an appropriate option in my case. I am worried that if my eye is out because of anything, could it cause nerve damage going on 2 months about 2 weeks? Will I ever have both eyes working together again, binocular vision restored, and aestetically aligned as before? Sorry for the long post, its my first.. This problem is hard to deal with with daily double vision/ cosmetic change that makes me Self conscious. Flairs of dizziness. Does any Professional have any idea what could be done? i know hard to diagnose without seeing someone, but any medical opinion would be appreciated. Even advice as to what I should do. Had a MRI w/ contrast showed nothing grossly wrong. Would appreciate any help. thanks in advance.

I have seen another Specialist, he was not a surgeon, but a Strabismus Dr. who reffered his cases out, he saw and noted what I was talking about, but said that unless it was very very bad like you see in the moderate to worse cases eye completely up or down, he thought that surgery was ludacris. He also said the prior offer of a prism may end up doing me more harm, than good as the eye could very well become used to the prism, and need more, and more prism as time went on, and this would cause my eye to go out further. He to when I mentioned the onset as a side note, (cautious after other experiance) said it was not related. I told him the disruption of my vision, to which he thinks it is just double vision despite my expaining more. That I truly can not use, or see out of left eye, unless it is covered.  Even at that I have noticed a decrease in clarity, and a slight decrease in the brightness of colors. HE said to do nothing. then I mentioned the self-concious cosmetic aspect of the issue aswell, and he said not to be self-concious. He failed to realize that it affects my vision to the point of not being able to function correctly, and I feel bad about the way the eye itself looks.. He said in comparision of the myraid of cases he has reffered out for surgery to him, my Strabismus is slight. Which I agree when compared to other cases, but I don't want to live like this. He offered a consult with a surgeon, to a city tat is too far away.  So I made an appoinment with another Specialist, who does both, and is well known for his experiance in the matter. My left side is the one where that occured, and the side that MRIS have shown I have disc displacement/ flatenning of the Mandibular condyles, and poor mandibular excursion/translation. I looked online and saw that people who suffer from TMJ./TMD such as mine were also complaing about eye symptoms, something I did not know at all. Including the corssing of the eye. I truly think there is some relation botween the two problems. My primary care does not even know the causes/ sypmtoms of TMJ, and last year I swelled up soo bad, and had to look for help, and diagnose myself, before I was going to be subjected to a bunch of exepensive tests, ranging from everything to allergies, auto-immune disorders. What I thought was true, was confirmed. Its just confusing sometimes. Thank you for your reply sorry for my long-long winded one :)

Cinna, take the doctor's advice very soon.  Don't let ebarrassment or fear of surgery slow you down even a little bit.  The reason I say this is that if you really have what is called 'sudden onset strabismus', there can be some pretty serious causes.  It might not be just a matter of 'moving the eye back, and you need a more complete workup to explain the situation to you.

Google Sudden onset strabismus' and you will see what I mean.

Thank you, I posted since I do not know what to do. I felt so dumb after I left the office of the Strabismus Dr. I have just been dealing with it. I just can not conceive of surgery for something I know is not classic strabismus. I just thought that the eye if it "moved out" for any reason. Why couldn't it just be moved back? I thank you for your prior response. Thank you for your time. .

This type of problem cannot be handled on the internet. You need to discuss with your neuro-ophthalmologist or get a second opinion from a pediatric/adult  strabismus Eye MD  I'm sure your neuro-ophthal will be happy to refer you.
