Diagnosis of indistinct ONH border + more, wondering what to expect

I went to the normal optometrist for an eye exam in July of 2016. The doctor referred me to an ophthalmologist for an indistinct ONH border, but I never got around to it. July of 2017 I got another eye exam and she told me that she doesn't think anything has changed, but I should still go get it checked out. I have noticed small visual hallucinations over probably the last year, almost like how I imagine dyslexic people read: words swapped around or just missing. It's gotten much worse over the last month. I'm scheduling an ophthalmologist appointment tomorrow to hopefully distinguish whether it's a physical or psychological issue, but are there any eye related conditions with my two given symptoms? I know that tumors can cause hallucinations, but from my understanding tumors of the optic nerve are very rare with no diagnosis of another disease. Thanks.

The most common cause of an indistinct optic nerve head and reason for referral is to rule out "papilledema" or pathological swelling of the ONH.   Most of the serious causes would have worsened over a 1 year period and other symptoms appeared.   Your symptoms however, being new, do indicate that its extremely important to see the ophthalmologist and report your new symptoms. you may need special tests like visual field exam or OCT testing.   If your eye exam is normal and you have these other symptoms you will need to discuss with the Eye MD about seeing a neruologist.  Tumors of the Optic nerve are rare but papilledema is not.
