Morning Eye Pain

I poked my eye around Christmas. Some morning I would wake with a shooting pain in my eye, and otherwise it has hurt every day since towards the end of the day. I went to the eye doctor and he prescribed me drops and an ointment because he said that maybe I have a cut that wont heal because each morning my eyes are so dry that when I open them my eyelid reopens the wound. He suggested I use the ointment and drops for 10 days and afterwards I could stop. Only one time during the ten days (early in) did I open my eye and felt the sudden sharp pain, however immediately upon stopping the pain returned, now two nights in a row and so I have started using the drops and ointment again. Any idea what else it may be? Or does this sound like the issue?

This is dirt common. Discussed many times here. It is called 'recurrent corneal erosions' it will require lubricating gel at bedtime and drops AM and other care for 4-6 months.  I don't have the time to go through all the treatment. Either use the search feature and read the extended discussions or under Top General Health Answerers click on my blue link and go through my posts. One long article is on RCE.
