You were told correctly and sun damage from looking at the sun is called solar maculopathy and damages the macula not the optic nerve

All of my tests - MRI and blood work have been 100% normal. Doctor is convinced we are dealing with some sort of virus that will just have to run it's course. One more question for you DR...and I have discussed with my DR, but I'm curious on your take.
About 2 hours prior to my symptoms starting I took a direct hit of sunlight in my right eye (the problem eye). I have never taken such a strong hit of light in my eye before and I will never forget that incident. While the doctors have told me thta sun damages other areas of the eye and not the optic nerve...is it possible that the optic nerve was "shocked" because of the sudden intense light? I mean the job of the optic nerve is to relay light signals correct? I just find this highly interesting that after I had a bad run in with the sun with that eye, I develop these scary symptoms. Thank you DR.
Thanks - I do intend to call tomorrow...I have a follow-up appointment set for the middle of the week.
I know I feel much better knowing that it isn't a brain tumor or anything MS related.
This forum cannot contradict what a neuroophthalmologist told you after a real eye exam. I suggest you call their office on Monday with your questions.

I did go to the neuroopthalmologist...she did an MRI and everything is normal. She said no reason to be concerned, it is most likely an infection of some sort that will work it's way out. I am still concerned because of the mild headaches and altered vision. The headaches aren't as frequent and the vision isn't getting worse, just annoying. I have a feeling the headaches could be due to the vision, with my left eye compensating for the right. Also, I have heavy discharge from the problem eye every morning (eye crusted shut). Would this lead you to think it is some kind of infection? There is no redness in the eye.
If you went to a non-MD, non-physician, limited ability optometrist then I would not make much of it until you see an ophthalmologist. IF you did see an Eye MD and he/she referred you to a neuroophthalmologist then keep the appointment.
