Reactivation of toxoplasmosis

Hi there - I was diagnosed with damage to the left retina - a scar very near the centre - caused by toxoplasmosis. This was back in 1986 when I was young. A specialist did check ups for a couple of years (although I was never given any medication) and said the scar had healed and there was no longer any sign of activity. My eyesight in the left eye improved but is of course still quite damaged. I have accepted this and lived with the imperfect vision for 22 years, believing I was done with toxoplasmosis. To be honest I barely notice it as my other eye is ok. A doctor told me that unless I was ever diagnosed with HIV, there was little chance of the virus becoming active again. However I was browsing the web and read that it can become active again at any time. This has left me feeling quite worried. How likely is this and what should I do to protect my vision?

Thanks very much John and dukey for your responses. I feel much better about things and will continue to get eye checkups and wear my prescription sunglasses :)

The chances of a problem are extremely low. Worry about protecting your good eye against injury and disease. See an Eye MD yearly.
