You will need to discuss this with your surgeon. I was assuming this was your first operation. For a 3rd operation it is not possible to generalize.

I have had two previous surgeries when I was younger for an inward turning eye. The 2nd of which was successful and I had good results for approx 20 years. Over the last couple of years it has started to drift outwards so was exotrophic when I went for surgery this time but it has been over corrected so is now inwards.
Not sure if it makes a difference but I have had amblyopia in this eye all my life.
Also would eye exercises help to move the eye into alignment or do I just need to sit tight and wait it out?
Thanks
Did your eye cross or turn out towards the ear before surgery? (esotrophia "cross eye" or exotrophia "wall eye"

Thank you for your response. I guess it is a waiting game. It has been over a week now and still turned quite far in. I know you cannot generalise at all but in your experience does the eye generally move much in the weeks following surgery? After the adjustments were made it was left at 14 diopters. I start a new job in 2 days time and am feeling so upset and self conscious as I think my eye looks much worse than it did before surgery.
Strabismus surgery is so variable that it is not possible to generalize or give you an expectation of how your eye will react. In general surgery is more difficult on adults than children.
