If there was something wrong w/ your eyes the doctor would perform a thorough dilated eye exam w/slit lamp and indirect ophthalmoscope. Sometimes the doctor may order additional tests if the findings during the exam are suspicious or warrant further investigation. As far as partial vision loss goes this could be a result of many things not necessarily a problem w/ the retina. However, if there was a problem w/ the retina the doctor should be able to detect it during the exam and/or through further testing depending on the specific problem.
Thanks for responding back. :-)
So, vision loss does not neccessary have to be something wrong with your retina? Where else in the eye could it be affected?
Just curious, sorry for the detailed questions.
It could be anything...even a neurological problem. If you have any concerns you should make an appointment w/ your eye doctor.
I forgot to add that many diseases of the eye can cause vision loss. such as glaucoma, cataract, etc.
