My 80 years old hypertensive mother had a catarract removed yesterday, and was prescribed a collyre with dexamethasone for 3 weeks post-op.   Several ago she required surgery for a glaucoma. Is it safe for her to use dexamethasone for 3 weeks?

As long as the IOP is monitored its safer to use the steroid than to not use it. The % of people that are steroid responders is very low.

Dexamethasone may increase her IOP so she needs her IOP to be monitored closely.
