silicone iol

I had silicone IOL done recently. I have read a few things about Silicone IOL. I just recently learned of the silicone oil contraindication by my own research and was disappointed that my doctor didn't bring it up at all. Is there anything else that someone with silicone IOL should know about? Anyone with silicone IOLs here on this forum and has anyone had any complications?

Silicone is one of the three major types of IOL material, the others being acrylic and PMMA.  Silicone is only a problem if down the line a person develops a severe type of retinal detachment that can only be repaired by putting silicone oil in the eye. This is a tiny % of people that get IOLs.

What would be an alternative option for somebody with retinal detachment who has silicone IOL besides silicone oil? Are there risk factors that make someone susceptible for retinal detachment?

You don't need to walk this out unless you have RD or have had RD.  What makes you think you had the wrong type of IOL material chosen?

I didn't say I have the wrong type of IOL chosen. I just learned about the silicone oil contraindication after the surgery which honestly I think I should have been at least made aware of by my eye MD when she presented the IOL options to me. I am just trying to learn more about this topic now to be better informed just in case of RD in the future. Thanks.
