Why do my babies eyes flicker?

Hi,
Tried posting in Paediatricsbut no reply so thought id try here aswell!
My baby daughter is 5 1/2 months old, since she was about 3 months old she has these random bouts of her eyes flickering really fast for a few seconds at a time, seems to be doing it more as time goes on. Have 3 other children and do not recall any of those doing the same. Is it normal or should i take her to my GP?
Many Thanks
Cher

your child needs to see a pediatric ophthalmologist. Ask your pediatrician for a referal. Do not neglect this.

Assuming you saw a pediatric ophthalmologist I think that's fine. If you just saw a GP or a pediatrician then you need to move up to a peds ophthalmologist.

thanks for your replies
took baby to the docs this morning, and he said that it is unusual but he isnt worried at the moment, to bring her back in 2-3 months if she is still doing it. Do you think this is a satisfactory outcome or should i go back for a second opinion?

Nystagmus is an involuntary movement of the eyes, sometimes leading to visual impairments. It can be acquired, but is more frequently present at birth. The eyes may move up and down, side to side, or around. It is caused by a weakness in the part of the brain that controls eye movement. For more information, visit the site of the American Nystagmus Network. This is my best guess. I think a trip to your GP is a good first step, they may refer you to a pediatric opthalmologist. Good luck!
