The point is it changes every 3 months so 8% could quite easily be 48% in 3 months. Your husband sperm changes every 100 days or so.
I remember in Nov my husband had 1% and after 2 months it was 50 something not sure but I got pregnant the next month with IUI.
Find out why the morphology is low and assume it could change easily. That is the good thing about male infertility it changes unless off course its a genetic condition and not down to lifestyle factors.
Put him on folic acid too.
Good luck!
Hello....they said that the morphology of my DH sperm was borderline at where they'd like it to be.....and I seem to recall it being about 8% or something like that. When we did IVF they fertilized half the eggs ISCI and half "au natural" (however they normally do it with IVF). So any who on the ISCI side 72% eggs fertilzed and 90%+ on the au natural side fertilized. Sometimes, I just don't know that these docs know what they're talking about!
Did they tell you 11% of men's sperm is normal morphology? I just recall 8% and 11% and they said my DH was borderline for what they'd like. So I don't know if that helps or not. Maybe if you get enough eggs do half and half.
Hello.. well hopefully this will give you some hope! our morphology is only 2%.. did repeat tests and always 2%.. my hubby saw a urologist and said nothing can usually be done about morphology.. taking vitamins, avoiding hot tubs can't fix that .. so he told us we should do IVF with ICSI.. we also have a TON of female issues (i have one working ovary, severe endo, pcos, lufs, etc!) anyhow my RE wanted to try IUI, so on our third IUI we got pregnant! unfortunately miscarried.. we got preg two other times using IUI and lost both (found out i have a clotting disorder thought to be causing our miscarriages) we were on a break cycle, i started taking asprin for the first time and we got pregnant naturally!!!! without any help or anything! a complete and utter miracle! with only 2% morphology, among other issues!
i would definitely have your dh take 1000mg vitamin C and a multivitamin each day, even though all the medical professionals told us it wouldn't help i still had my dh do this.. it sure won't hurt was my thinking.. So i think giving IUI a chance would be a great way to go! and it can work! : ) GOOD LUCK!!! keep us updated! : )
I don't know much about the numbers, yet. I'm still waiting to get my DH's results back from his s/a. But I did start him on a vitamin regime a few months ago. You can also try looking up FertilAid and Fertlity Blend for Men. I don't know if they are a gimic or if there is any success with them, but they do include the ones I mentioned above.
After everything I've read, I really don't think it can hurt anything. Vitamin C is for motility and L-Carnitine (500mg) is for morphology.
thanks for your comments. I have read a LOT about multivitamins, etc.. our doctor seemed to think that bc our morphology was sooooo bad that our only hope was IVF. I may go and get him some good vitamin C and keep him going on the multivitamins. it's all so distressing!!! is 8% really that low? it sure sounds it ...
I agree with tivey about the vitamins. 1000mg a day of Vitamin C is supposed to be good, as well as L-Carnitine and Argintine - it's at least worth asking your dr about. And the no alcohol as well.
Hi Ruby, I think IUI would be the next logical step before IVF. Have you discussed that option? Also morphology is something that can be worked on e.g. folic acid helps.
Depending on what time you have you might consider your husband taking multivitamins (doc can prescribe) and have a look at his lifestyle and adjust accordingly. All I know is sperm is created evey 3 months so a few adjustments can make the world of difference. Your husband has good sperm count and motily so morphology can be worked on.
My husband had the worst sperm test ever I can't even remember now but it was dreadful bad everything! and we were shocked because the year before it was fine! Anyway strong multivitamins which were prescribed, folic acid, and getting plenty of rest and no beer, eating really well ie lots of protein. After 2 months it was fine again well still needed to be better but it was a lot better and we were able to continue.
Good luck with it all.
