ivf question regarding embryos???

i'm back again with another question... :) i'll be starting an IVF cycle in July. my fiance and i have discussed it in great lenghts and have decided that when the time comes we r going to have the dr put in 2 embryos in hopes that they both stick! i have researched the many complications u can have with twins, but i have strong feelings that i'll be ok. im still pretty young, im in great shape, i eat very healthy and i have little to no health complications. i have only one fallopian tube left and that one has scar tissue on it and cannot be repaired. my infertility issue is tubal related. i had a recent scare that my fsh level was too high, however, my RE's office called me earlier this week to tell me day 3 FSH and day 10 FSH came back normal. my question is: is anybody out there with a simular situation as mine that has done the IVF procedure and transfered 2 embryos and was successful on the first try?

I had two transferred (with five to freeze) and got pregnant with one. My little baby girl is now 4 1/2 months old! I agree with the others...it depends on your situation, but it's fairly common to have two transferred.

I am going through my first IVF cycle at the end of this month and I felt the same way as you.  I wanted to transfer 2 embryos to increase my chances of success and I was ok with the idea of twins.  You mentioned that you are fairly young - I am 27.  As it turns out my RE would not allow me to transfer 2 embryos for the first try because of my age.  He said if the first cycle wasn't successful then they MAY allow me to transfer 2 the second time.

I think your doctor will decide how many to transfer depending on the quality of the embies and the state of your uterus. There were women here that got to transfer only 1 and it split and in the end had identical twins. I think luck has something to do with how many of them will implant... Best of luck to you!

Honestly, through my reading most Dr's will put back in 2 healthy embryos, if that's an option.  Of course it depends on your age and other individual factors.  I recently did my first round of IVF.  They transfered 2 embroys, according to the embryologist they were great quality.  We found out yesterday that we are pregnant.  My Beta was higher then they expected, but not too high.  From what I'm reading and what my accupunturist said it  could be twins.  We won't find out until the 26th of May.

Good Luck!

thank u for responding. i have done pretty extensive research on carrying multiples, and i did read about some of the complications that can come up, and without trying to sound selfish, i still feel strongly about being able to handle it. i do understand exactly what your saying though because when i read about the possible risks, i thought long and hard about wanting to try to carry twins. i also feel that if i have them implant 2 embryos and only 1 sticks or maybe both stay, then what happens is what is meant to be. i will hope and pray that i make the right decision when the time is right....thank u again for taking time out and responding to my post!

I often joke that in the fertility/IVF world, it's so funny how almost all of us pray for twins.  It's almost like we get "more for our money", or have succeded!  ha ha!  I too, hope for twins with the day comes.... It's just funny to me how differently we think then woman who get pregnant on their own.  If you and your hubby have talked about it and are comfortable with your decision, I say go for it : )

Well, I understand that you'd feel ok with carrying twins, and it is absolutely and only your decision to try for twins, but the risks are not just on you - they're also on the babies. Think about the risks of premature birth and all kinds of complications that come with it... Just food for thought!

I had an option of transferring 2 embryos (ended up with extra 4 for freezing), but decided on 1 only because I knew that transferring 2 would only increase my chances of multiples, not chances of success period. I was certainly not trying to deliberately to have twins, and since the one embryo took, I'm almost positive that the other one would have too if I had transferred two (they were all similar quality). So, I'd say if you have top quality embryos and you transfer 2, then it is most likely that either NONE implant or BOTH, so you will probably end up with twins... Best of luck on whatever you guys decide! :)
