What are some important questions to ask a fertility specialist?

I have my first appointment with my fertility specialist next Wednesday. I had a tubal pregnancy on march 26th and had my 8 week old baby and my right tube removed. My doctor suggested that we do an HSG to see how the other tube looked. I got the results back last week and my left tube is completely blocked. I am pretty sure our only option is IVF, because surgery is just a temporary fix and I don't want to wait around! I guess I am just wondering what I should ask my doctor, since I am fairly new to all of this. Also is anyone would like to share there success stories that may lighten my heart a little and maybe I would not feel so SAD! Thanks and have a wonderful day!

I asked a ton of questions the first time we saw our dr. We had to go straight to IVF as well. The first few months will be testing. You and your husband. They want to make sure they know everything before they do any procedure. I would ask about the tests and how soon you can get started. Also you can go online and see if anyone has rated your dr., and what his patients say about him. IVF involves a lot of office visits, so I would make sure my insurance covered all of them. I actually worked it out with my dr., because only half my visits were covered by insurance. It can be very overwhelming at first. Hang in there and stay positive. Good Luck!!

I think it's a good thing to go right to IVF and not mess around with anything else.  I know a lot of women on this message board, me included, tried meds first, then some inseminations, and finally IVF.  A lot of studies have shown that people that go directly to IVF actually spend LESS money than people who do multiple inseminations.

The fact that you have been pregnant shows that you can get pregnant, so I assume your husband's semen analysis is normal.  I'm sure your fertility doctor will want to do the necessary tests, such as semen analysis (if that hasn't been done yet), your hormone levels on day 2-4 of your cycle.  If all those are clear, you'll probably end up going right to IVF.

Good luck!
