What counts as Day One on your period?

Do you count the days you spot or the actual first day of bleeding?

i was told that the first day was the red blood, not the brown stuff you get first.

My RE and my OB have different opinions on this---My OB says the first day of heavy flow.....My RE says the first sign of any blood including spotting....UGH!

I agree with the above poster.  Generally, you count the first day as when it starts to actually "flow".

I believe the rule of thumb is that when you start having bleeding that is heavy enough to require a pad/tampon, then you should count that as day #1.

Hopefully someone else can correct me if I'm wrong!
