Hey there! STD's are the most common cause of high WBC cell counts, but if you are going through IVF they have probably tested you both for STD's
I contacted the lab today to see if I could find out what my husbands WBC was and she stated that they do not count the WBC but are only required to note it if they find any. She could not tell me anymore than that. She didn't know how high it was or if there was an infection. We live in a small town and they don't do indept analysis's. Do you know were I can look to find out what types of infections cause the WBC's to be elevated?
I've also wondered myself about the WBC count. My husband's were at 1 million, so his general doctor thought something might be wrong, but my OBGYN strongly reassured me that this was fine. Since we've been TTC for almost 2 yrs now and I've been on meds and have been ovulating for a while now with no luck, this is sometimes in the back of our minds. Does anyone else have any experience with this?
That is a GREAT semen analysis and a lot to be celebrated!! It would be valuable to know the quanitity of WBC, as all semen samples have WBC in them, more than 1 million can be a concern for infection. WBC can be a problem because they stimulate the release of oxygen in the sample which inhibits sperm motility and function.
The WBC in the semen would not be from a cold -- as the high number locally are probably due to some sort of gential tract infection. WBC are present in all tissues of the body in low levels but increase locally due to infection.
Keep your head up!
