If you husband had a vasectomy 15 years ago chances of a reversal working are pretty slim. My husband had one 11 years ago and I did some research and the success rates decrease significantly after 5 years.
A TESA (testicular sperm aspiration) is probably your best option, but insurance will not cover it in the case of a vasectomy, so it will be very expensive. Sorry to hear about your donor. Have you considered going through a sperm bank? If you do this you can have the sample overnight and could even get future samples for future offspring. Just a thought.
Extraction is also a choice, though I don't know how much it would cost. They basically take a needle and go through the scrotum to get the sperm and suck it out...Don't know if this is an option or not for you. Call around and ask how expensive this procedure is and see if it would work for you. Hope this helps. That way you can have a genetic link - if that is important to you.
thank you sooo much.i found the site and have emailed him, hoping to hear back soon !! if all goes well.we will go there in june!!!
There is a clinic in Oklahoma that will do reversals for $1500.00. Very affordable. You can have sperm extracted, but is is almost as expensive, if not moreso than a reversal. I used to have the website for the dr. in Oklahoma. I'll look for it. But, in the meantime, if you do a Google search for "affordable vasectomy reversals" his website should come up. My BIL is a dr. and checked out this guys credentials and they are very good. He does them cheaply out of prinicipal and because he uses a local anesthetic instead of general is lessens the cost considerably. Worth looking into. Also, for donors try cryogeniclabs . com. The labs keep a supply on hand that you can prepurchase and hold for when you need it. Therefor no risk of backing out. Sounds strange that his work schedule interfers with donating. It only takes a few minutes to make a deposit. Hmmm.....
