Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.
Sorry I have not had this procedure so I can not offer insights....but there are a few on here that should be able to help you.
Wishing you all the best with your procedure.
Hi there,
The benefit of a partial Nissen Fundo is that you will still be able to burp, vomit and let gas out easily.
Surgeons opt these days for a partial Nissen Fundo instead of the 360degree full Nissen fundo! With the full Nissen fundo it is impossible to vomit and patients often complains of extreme IBS symptoms from trapped gas.
I had my partial Nissen Fundo done 2012 and have had lots of issues with eating ever since! I had a Manomatry done that indicated the wrap is to tight and 19/20 of the swallows failed as the LES does not open properly. I am now going for a Dilation of the wrap, 27 November. Revision surgery is to risky and Surgeons are very careful not to go that route.
These anti-reflux surgeries should not be taken lightly as there are lots of nerves involved (the vagus nerve being very delicate) and should be last resort option, after the patient has had the baseline tests and not responding to the dietary changes and optimal medication.
19yrs is still very young!
As I've said to you in our PM's: I am very concerned that your Doctors did not do the baseline tests on you: i.e. Manomatry (to make sure you don't have abnormal peristalsis) and PH study to see how severe the acid reflux is.
Also: be prepared for the 6 weeks post-op liquid and soft food diet as this is absolutely key to the success of the operation.
I wish you all the best for your upcoming op and trust that it will be a success.
