Heartburn, Chronic pain in URQ, What is it?

29 male here. For as long as I can remember, I've been suffering from extremely bad heartburn, sometimes I wake up choking on bile. Also, I have a terrible, persistant pain in my URQ, right around the gall bladder/liver area that has been going on for like 7 months now. Sometimes it feels like a dull ache ache and sometimes like a burning/stabbing feeling. Some days it goes away entirely and I might get a few days of relief, but then it just comes roaring back. It is destroying my quality of life as it's a chronic pain that I just can't escape.

Went to the ER a few months ago for it, they did blood test and ultrasound and told me all my organs looked fine. They told me it definitely wasn't my gallbladder or gall stones.

I know for a fact I do have a slight hernia, and had surgery 4 years ago, but it came back. I don't believe that would be causing the pain in my URQ, as I never had this pain during my first hernia. Mentioned it to the doc, but he didn't seem too concerned.

Any ideas? I am out of insurance at the moment, but just wondering if anyone else has similar symptoms (heartburn + chronic pain in URQ). Doctor tried telling me IBS, but eh... not so sure.

Yeah, I've been taking fiber supplements and have regular bowel movements. Not on any meds. I haven't been tested for H. Pylori either.

Just can't get rid of this irritating URQ pain. It seems to come and go randomly and doesn't really seem to be aggravated by much except when I sit down at my computer for too long. I get up and stretch and it seems to help. It also flares up when I am stressed.

Hi....it is possible to be gerd related. Such as it could be a bacteria infection...have u been tested for H.Pylori?

IBS will also affect ur GERD.

Are u on meds or eating enuff fiber?......make sure u know what ur bowels should look like and how regular u r.....it is a very important part of ur overall health.

Thanks for the reply. Is it possible the pain in my URQ is caused by acid reflux? I would think that might be entirely unrelated but I don't know for sure. The doc said everything on that side looked fine and didn't know why it was hurting so he just said IBS.

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

It sounds like u have reflux and there r many reasons u could have it...a bacteria..calle H.Pylori....ask to have that checked...also, I would not rule out the Gall Bladder, My Father went to the ER 6 times in a 4 month time frame...said he thought it was his GB and they ran tests and said no.....his last visit finally they had to remove it.....plus he also had the bacteria....

There r OTC meds u can take until u can see a dr...ask ur Pharmacist what he reccommends..dosage wise and type...PPI or HII.

ANd u may want to review the Health Pages here on MedHelp for tips on how to reduce acid......
