Reoccurring Heartburn

I've had severe heartburn issues every since I was 14. I had an endoscopy when I was 16 and the doctors found nothing, so the prescribed me a rather high dose of Pantoprazole, which I had taken until I was 18. After a few years of being on the medicine, I noticed that the Pantoprazole alone wasn't enough to tame my daily heartburn, (which, ironically enough, wasn't set off by certain foods, but in fact tamed it. In the morning before I had eaten, it was especially bed to the point sometimes where I had to vomit. Never any blood. But any sort of food would help.), so I started taking Ranitidine 75mg every day as well, which helped, and then I had to move up to 150mg on top of the pantoprazole. When my insurance ran out, I ended up switching to two Ranitidine 150mg tabs a day and one more if I had an attack, but now that seems to be becoming hopeless as well. The only thing I haven't tried is Nexium, which I don't know would do anything or have the same effect. I'm only 21 and I'm tired of this getting in the way of my life. It's gotten to the point where foods will set it off now, especially alcoholic beverages (so I very rarely drink), so I'm considering getting another endoscopy, but if I had an ulcer or something the treatment would be exactly the same that I've been doing for years. This is seriously getting in the way of my quality of life.

some people suffer from migranes and /or IBS because of thyromine intolerance. it is a perservative in certain foods. intolerance is not the same as an alergy so it is not as easy too pinpoint. i hope that it has nothing to do with cancer and i wish you the best. please let us know how things go.

I personally do not believe that we just get (IBS) irritable bowel syndrome. something has triggered it like the H-pylori and by not taking the antibiotics for them; it just got worse but the antibiotics will still kill the infection, you just might need a double dose. other things can trigger IBS. Most common triggers have to deal with alergies and intolorence to certain foods, spices or perservatives in the food. you also have to consider the chemicals that are put in the food now days by these big companies that make billions off of people but wouldn't care less if you live or die.

Hum, ok. Well i just can't believe that your body has decided to just have Gerd. It has to be something that is making it happen. have you been tested for H-pylori? It is a bacterial infection that can cause Gerd. Ask your doctor about it. it can alsp mimic a heart attack or gallbladder problems.

I live in an apartment building in the suburbs close to the city. A garden is impossible, not to mention I live by myself and time is limited so making my own food seems like a large waste to my time, energy, and space. Aside from that, I can't eat McDonalds (it makes me sick), but I usually shy away from fast food in general. Lastly, there is no way in heck I would try an ween myself off of the meds. I would most certainly be in severe pain and vomiting 24/7. I have tried vegan food for awhile, and it doesn't seem to have any different effect in favor or against.

Thanks for trying though.

after about two weeks into this process, if you follow it. you can start wheening your self off of those meds that interupt your bodies natural routine. your body knows what it is doing and that is how it fights some of the crap we put in it. if we only knew the whole process of how they prepare our food for consumption, we wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. If you really get into it, starting your own garden would be even more benificial to you. My grandma died at 103 yrs of age. i don't ever remember her being sick. not even with a cold. she told me one of the reasons she has lived so long, besides the grace of God, she ate all of her meals from her own garden and she bought the freshes meat she could possibly find. She even rinsed the lids of her drink containers before she opened and drank them. So it doesn't hurt to be more aware of these things.

nutritional eating and exercise should be number one on your list. there are natural remedies that do help but it will take a lifestyle change to solve the problem entirely. I know that sounds pretty s uc k y but you would be amazed at what you can get use to and even start to enjoy. Try to eat more foods that are fresh. stay away from fast food all together. Micky D's is your enemy! instead of vegi oil, use olive oil. Use real butter but with very small portions and not every meal. drink something warm with your meal and leave the cold drinks for when your not eating. it will help your body digest the food faster. try and stay away from fried foods. if you have time, take a 30min walk after supper and make sure you don't go to bed for at least three hrs after you eat. cut way back on cafiene and alchole. Drink more water. If you do this, you will feel better. I promise.
