Salt like taste in mouth, GERD

I don't have a question and I didnt know how else to be able to post this somewhere but I thought important enough to post.  For the past 2 yrs I have been searching the internet because my now 85 yr old mother has a salt like taste in her mouth.  My sister and I have taken her to every kind of dr we could think of from neurologists to eyes nose and throat specialists, to regular medical dr etc... We kept saying after narrowing things down and thinking it was from her meds (and yes we tried taking her off meds putting her on others) didnt work the one common demonator I have read on most these post is the people had GERD.  Anyway after about 3 yrs of searching we finally found out that her esphogus is stretched for lack of knowing the medical term towards the bottom.  I forgot to mention that from the salt like taste we went to not being able to swallow with a 35 lb loss of weight and my mother is now 91 lbs.  Anyway the medical term for this rare disease is Achalasia.  I may not have things in the correct order the way I am typing this but I thought it important since I saw ALOT of people with the same symtoms to get this posted .   In fact here is the article that was posted in the Asbury Park Press about a month ago that made us more sure this is what my mom had and the drs finally diagnosed Achalasia.   http://www.checkorphan.org/news/back_normal_bite_bite.  Please if anyone can copy and paste this under the right heading I would appreciate it I just really dont know much about posting on these sites.

This does sound very much more than just post nasal drip, I just wonder if she has it in addition and that was the salt taste she has.

Does ur mom have other autoimmune issues....from what I just read that may be part of her main cause of her current condition.

I pray the botox works as the drs want and she is able to eat and put on some weight.

It's much more complicated then post nasal drip, as I said in my post the drs finally diagnosed Achalasia which is an stretched esphagus for lack of the medical term.  She had a procedure  this past wednesday which was an endoscopy and they shoot botex in the the muscle at the lower part of the esphagus where it is stretched.  Seventy per cent works and I say this with hesitation I think it's working because she ate last night more then she has in a long time :)

Hi...sorry I do not know if I am able to offer much help...but the only thing I can think of is post nasal drip for the salty taste and it can cause acid reflux.
