Need Help!

Hello, I am suffering from GERD, or so the docs say.  I am taking Zegrid twice a day, prilosec twice a day, zantac 2-3 times a day, carafate 4 times a day, Nexium once a day.  To me this is not normal.  And with all those med I am still throwing up in the middle of the night.  I am to the point of eating a grilled cheese sandwich for dinner every night at 5pm and then going to bed at 11 or 12 to try and not throw up so much.  I also sleep on 6 pillows.  My gastro doctor has told me that I am just going to have to live with this.  I am not satisfied with this answer.  SO I am reaching out to see if anyone has any idea of what direction I need to head for relief.  I am considering the Lapband procedure to prevent myself from eating very much and maybe allowing my stomach to digest my food.  Cause when I thorw up at night I am throwing up lunch too.

Any help or advice would be great!!!

U r welcome...I would stay away from the lapband idea....and I would also seek a second opinion...u r on soooooo many meds for the same thing, I wonder if u r having symptoms of too little acid...I read it feels the same as too much.

Get some info on testing to see just how much acid u have .....and mayb then u can cut back on the meds and feel better.

Let me know how omitting dairy works for u.

I am a few pounds overweight, and I do have a hiatal hernia that they found with the last endoscopy that I had.  I have changed my diet so much with no relief.  I eat small meals and that are of pretty bland food.  My doctor has not told me to stay away from Dairy though.  That is a new one.  I will have to try.  Thanks!

Hi And welcome to the forum.

May I ask, did ur drs say to try and stay away from dairy products? For most of us with gerd it would be later in the day, but with someone on so many meds and no relief...the dairy slows down the esphopagus's sphincter and will allow the reflux to occur.

Some also find the pillows do not help, but elevating the head of the bed helps much more....

Please look at our Health Pages for more info on lifestyle changes and safe foods to eat.U may also want to keep a journal of what u eat and how u feel afterward...not everyone is ok with the safe foods and not everyone has adverse reactions to the foods to avoid...learn ur triggers and help lessen the overproduction of acid.

I do not know what u eat on a normal basis....and several  small meals  during the day is better than larger meals.

U mentioned the lapband, are u overweight?...do u know if u have a hiatal hernia?

Please keep us posted on ur progress
