I have had all kinds of test done on my heart and they all came back negative. Is there something going on with my esophagus will be going to see my GI tommorow. What is going on is it acid reflux I am taking nexium once a day and also reglan. I there anyone out there experiencing my same symptoms?

After much research due to my life long interest in health matters, I have come to believe that GERD is so prevalent now for several reasons. In general, poor diet. It's not only what we've been eating, it's what we haven't been eating. Our meals are not balanced. We have a habit of eating anything, at any time, in whatever combination, and our poor digestive tracts are like garbage disposals. We eat driving our cars, slouched over on the sofa, running to our next soccer game... Most packaged foods are over processed, leaving them with no living enzymes to help the food break down. The fiber is removed, too much salt added, preservatives.... It's not even edible anymore, yet we eat it. I also think a lot of GERD comes from the presence of a hiatal hernia, which is a damaged stomach. One way to get one is from an extended poor diet. When food moves too slowly through your GI tract, it can cause it to "back up" and bulge out, putting too much pressure on the walls of the tract. Now food has trouble staying down with the abnormal angle of the stomach.
In addition, there seem to be more allergies to foods, and I think it's because of all the added preservatives, pesticides, artificial everything that seems to be everywhere lately. If we were to all be trapped on a deserted island for a month, with nothing to eat but seafood, seaweed and coconuts, I'll bet 99 percent of all heartburn would "miraculously" disappear!
Add to that, we don't exercise enough, therefore have weak stomach muscles, and are under more stress than ever with our general lifestyles, and you have a recipe for GERD.

Yes those are all the symptoms I had too. What may feel like chest pain is actually in some cases acid reflux. It also made me short of breath, bloated and other problems. Mines is because of a hiatal hernia. I think the question we should be asking is why there is so many cases of GERD now, it must be something were eating.

My husband had those symptoms. They made him feel panicky, and he swore he was having a heart attack. But no, it was acid reflux. He takes digestive enzymes with each meal, drinks aloe vera juice before bed (to neutralize acid and gas) and takes charcoal capsules if he wakes up feeling burpy or with a sour stomach . He was taking Nexium, but with mixed results, and I worried about long term effects. Now his reflux is gone, for years now, and he just takes the enzymes and aloe juice daily and charcoal capsules as needed.

Hi...I get those symptoms when my IBS flares up....it in turn affects my hiatal hernia....so a vicious cycle.....the GI dr will be able to give u a better idea as to what is going on......he may suggest more testing like a barium study....or a PH level.....

Good luck and post an update : )
