After having a throat infection for 13 years (Lingual Tonsillitis which has irritated the hyoid bone), I found an ENT who diagnosed me and put me on a few medications to bring down the inflammation. I was put on Prednisone for 14 days, Augmentin and generic Prilosec/omeprazole 20mg. As of a week ago wed the inflammation was down 75% and I was feeling much better after being sick for so long.
After two weeks I felt like I was getting side effects from the prilosec like the muscles in my head/jaw/temples tightening up (I have TMJ so I thought it was that) and tingling in my left fingers (however I'm coming off the Prednisone and my blood sugar is still running high).
Because of this, I told the doctor I was having a possible reaction and he switched me to generic Zantac 150mg 2x per day - that was WORSE. My head was so tight, my anxiety heightened and I got a massive yeast infection after 4 days. So I went back on the generic prilosec. This is the second day back on it and my face is tight, my neck is tight, the hyoid bone feels like it's inflamed again, my temples hurt and my left hand feels "funny" (the tingling is there and it's a little stiff). Are these normal side effects?
The problem is I need to be on something to prevent the infection from coming back however it's christmas eve and I cannot take this medication any longer feeling like this. I feel (gut feeling) that I have to stop it until I can call the doctor who won't be in until monday.
Could it be possible that I'm having a reaction to the generic or is this normal for prilosec. I've never been on this before so I have no idea what to expect. Would prevacid be better or would I have the same reaction to that?
Thanks for the help in advance.
Christine.
